Importing a car in India

Moderators, please move this if not in appropriate place.
I am moving to India and plan to import from Italy one or two of my cars (LHD) for my own personal use. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to do this?
In addition to that, I do have an English and a Philippine driving licence. Can I drive legally or I need a sort of exam or conversion of my licence?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion

Left hand drive cars are not allowed here so that ends things!

You can exchange your licence. Enroll at the Automobile Association who will guide you through

I think LHDs are allowed for diplomatic use. If you are working with your country's consulate, you may be able to get one in.

What about those on UN jobs (WHO, FAO types)? They do have diplomatic passports- are they allowed to import these LHDs?

As I am not a diplomat and do not work for any governamental organization, so it seems that I have no chanches. I tried to find old threads, but I was unable to.
Thanks for all the info.

Falcon,
Thank you very much for the links. Sorry it took so long to answer but I am back in Italy now and I was so busy at work that I had no time to surf the net. I will check all the related threads and try to choose the best option.
Ciao

Import of Cars into India,

Hi,
I have imported a couple of cars in the past and know that you cannot import any LHD cars. I know of someone who brought in an old MBG from the US, a LHD car and got into a lot of trouble. The car was initially confiscated and then a big fine had to be paid to release it. LHD cars are a problem. Think seriusly.

Importing Cars

Hi

I Just have a Few Questions Regarding Importing Cars in India

I Hope This is the Right Section Of The Forum and If Not Then Please Move This Thread, Sorry For Any Mix Up

Here are the Questions

1) Can You Import A LHD Car Into India Which was made in 1992 from the UK?? Yes I Mean The Ferrari F40
( I knw LHD cars are Not allowed anymore , But is there a way)

2) When People Talk About Importing Cars, Why Do they Suggest Getting it From Japan??

3) Is There A Power Restriction On What Kind of a Car can Be Imported??

(eg: Viper ACR, Mclaren Mercedes SLR 722, Mclaren F1 ( Especially This one as this has a Central Driving Position) )

Im Sorry if My questions are Kiddish, But i Did not Know Where Else to Ask Them

Thank You

1) NO LHD not possible. You cant import used AFAIK
2)Japan uses RHD
3)NO restrictions as long as it is RHD and above 40k USD

There are a lot of threads about this. Please search.

Thank You For Anwsering My Questions, I'm Sorry I Did Not Use The Search Function, Will Do So In The Future, Apologies

Just One Thing, Are You Sure You Cannot Get Used Cars In India And LHD's Also Because I See Quite A Few Being Driven Here ( Regular Cars Not Diplomats)

The LHD rule was enforced only recently. Now it is near impossible to get an LHD car into India and have it properly registered, legally.
