Re: Behind the Scenes: How Press & Media Drives Work

Rather interestingly, a Youtube ad for the Kia Sonet popped up on my feed and the content was sit down feedback from a journalist belonging to each major Indian publication. This seems to have been recorded when the journalists got a first glimpse of the car in an interior setting where they have all shot their walk around videos. A little too blatant breaking of the fourth wall?

Ride quality is a super important consideration in India and tyre pressure greatly influences it. Sadly, most petrol pump tyre machines are wrongly calibrated. To solve that problem, we use our own Michelin gauge.

Question to the Mods who regularly test newly launched vehicles:
  • Wouldn't these brand new vehicles be in their run in period when you guys get your hands on them? However, one will not be able to test the car to its limits without revving hard and redlining!
  • How do you tackle these situations?
  • Do you guys go ahead and redline these new cars?
  • Or are the test cars already run in?

The cars are brand-new and hence, not run-in. It does pain to redline a brand new engine, but then, there's work to be done. Can't baby the car else our review wouldn't be complete.

Never, ever buy an ex-media vehicle. They are driven to within an inch of their lives at times.

Do these media vehicles then become showroom test drive vehicles. Is there anyway to find out of a car has been a media vehicle.

They would be directly registered to the manufacturer. Perhaps, you could google some previous road tests, assuming the car had a permanent registration and also review the media long term test cars and note the number plate. Normally the media drives use the manufacturer fleet and the poor hapless nearby dealers demo fleet.

Also when there is a media road show by BMW/Audi/Mercedes in your town. Depending on the type of use, wait for 6 months before buying one of the pre-used fleet

Re: Behind the Scenes: How Press & Media Drives Work

This is my 'media car' drawer. The first thing that a media car comes in, about 15 minutes are spent spraying every damn surface of the interior and sanitizing it.

Am driving the new i20 tomorrow.

How long to clear the highly inflammable fumes? Half an hour with all the doors open?

Crazy Covid times. Would Hyundai not do it for you? Anyways being safe is better than sorry. Good luck on your drive.

I am using this from 3M in my cars.

But switches cause small sparks. I have no idea how much would be dangerous. A quick sanitising the hands, probably not. But sanitising all controls and surfaces, as one probably would, might well be.

Re: Behind the Scenes: How Press & Media Drives Work

How much difference could it make to the performance of any vehicle after the engine has been run for 10,000-15,000 Kms ? Because by then, ALOT of components would've bed in, say like the engine piston rings, possibly the gear-shift would've become abit smoother or even the suspension.

Edit : I'm asking your personal opinion based on reviewers experiences, as I'm guessing it'd be varied, i.e. ALOT in some types of vehicles & some brands and progressively lower in others.

Re: Behind the Scenes: How Press & Media Drives Work

Dunno if this is a FAQ, but do you remove the TBHP stickers after you stick them on the media cars?
