Read in newspapers today that Hyundai is upset over its poor sales of Sonata, which is doing only 50 units of its target of 2000 units. To compensate the company is planning to release its diesel variant by start of October this year & they expect to push around 200 units/month.

Also Hyundai in reply to Maruti WagonR CNG is planning to release a small car powered by CNG early next year. Additional news is that GETZ will get a facelifted version with introduction of diesel variant though to time frame has been mentioned about that.

A diesel Sonata? Wow...that ought to give the Accord and Laura a run for the money. There really is no diesel sedan available in the 15 lakh segment except for the Laura. Why didnt Hyundai launch the diesel and petrol Sonatas together?

Yes, Embera is doing badly right now. Discounts from 1.5 to 2 lakhs is available and some dealers are also giving 2 Plasma TVs if you buy an Embera. Similar discounts were available on Elantra as well but now they have officially reduced its price by 1 lakh.

One more thing, Embera is labelled as bad car according to its sales but due to its discounts/goodies and diesel engine it might just bounce back.
A good car, initially is labelled as bad but then picks up really well.
(this statement is applicable only to some cars)
Example : Baleno

I learned about Diesal Sonata almost 6 months ago in a auto mag. The article said Hyundai wants to give a 'Cristmas Gift' to India by offering Diesal Sonata in December this year.

@GTO, Yes Diesal Sonata is a huge Potencial and should fare really well. Bytheway I just can't understand why Cureent Sonata isn't doing well in India. It looks good, has enough power, has brilliant back-seat comfort and all at a very good price. It is very well recieved in America too then why is it failing here in India.

Cuz the Indian consumer tends to buy into a brand, rather than buy the product.

Sonata Diesel.......sounds interesting.
Might even turnout to be a success.
As for small CNG car, the more competitive this segment gets the better.

DeJa-Vu
When Laura came out everyone said this car will give Accord run for its money after all its diesel and offers so much more than what Accord offers.

When new Sonata came out everyone said this car will give Accord run for its money after all its best VFM one can find in this segment.

And now Diesel Sonata.
Lets wait and watch how it turns out.

Just to touch on 'giving the accord a run for its money' issue
There is no car that i can think of right now available in India that will give the accord stiff competition, expecccccct the Camry IFFF it begins production in India. The accord sales will fall BIG TIME if the camry is priced around 16 lakhs.
As for the Laura it is alomst 19 lakhs on road, which makes it almost 2.5 lakhs more exp than the automatic 4cyl accord. Yes, it has more features than the accord but it lacks interior space and the BIG car status

Wagon R is LPG...not CNG ...! Its good more and more vehicles are moving to the CNG Category...offering economy and comfort...!

The List stands now as HM-Mitsubishi CNG Lancer / TATA XETA-MARINA-INDIGO-SAFARI CNG/GM Chevy Optra CNG/Coming Soon Hyundai Santro CNG..!
