Re: The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto

I dont mind if the upcoming Canto looks like the facelifted Genio. After all, Xylo --> Genio --> Quanto --> Canto -

Judging from the spy shots though, it is clearly not the case.

If the Xylo and Canto/Quanto got this front end with necessary design changes they would become a pair of real mean looking machines.

But as they say, "if wishes were horses"..

Even the earlier pic of the Canto looks good but I see no sense of this coming in where the TUV300 already exists.

Lets hope Mahindra puts our doubts to rest when and if they finally launch this.

Re: The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto

A test mule of the Mahindra Quanto facelift has been spotted once again. In the latest round of spy shots, the vehicle is seen with an automated manual transmission (AMT).

The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto-2.jpg

Mahindra had displayed an AMT-equipped Quanto at the 2014 Auto Expo. The company had even started testing the car on public roads (click here to read report). However, that was the pre-facelift model and Mahindra seemed to have kept its plans to introduce the AMT on hold. The company is now likely to launch it with the facelifted model.

The refreshed Quanto is likely to get a new grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, restyled headlamps, which appear to have DRLs, a bonnet scoop and reworked tail lamps. The vehicle is also likely to get alloy wheels of a different design.

On the inside, the Quanto gets a beige dashboard and a new multifunction steering wheel. An updated audio system and reworked seats are also likely to be provided.

According to media reports, the Quanto is likely to use the same 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine as the TUV300. The vehicle's suspension is expected to be tweaked as well.

I don't get it. What's the point of this? Where will they position this? They've already got the TUV which is competitive enough and the upcoming KUV. Quanto was also recently launched in Italy, why not launch the updated version?
I'm guessing that people who were running Mahindra two wheelers have moved to the car company.

I wish Mahindra does a Maruti like Versa----->Eeco to the Quanto------>Canto

That is, make an offer people can't refuse.

Re: The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto

I think the bosses in Mahindra have a very good sense of the market. They have a SUV/ or a mini SUV/ or a SUV type looking vehicle in almost every price point.

KUV100
Quanto/Canto
TUV300
Bolero
Thar
Scorpio
XUV 500
Rexton

(leaving the Xylo out for the moment)

Maybe not all these vehicles in themselves are very competent, but no manufacturer has Mahindra's range. I think internally they may have decided to be recognized in the eyes of the public as the SUV specialists or the defacto SUV company of India. Not a bad thing at all, when the market is increasingly being biased towards SUVs. I just like the way how Mahindra is approaching the market - I sense a lot more clarity of vision in their approach. Thats why, I have always stood by their stock.

The front looks very aggressive indeed and goes wel with the overall design of the car unlike current generation.
Hope Xylo would get similar treatment.

Why does this look like an SUV-fied (new word but I am sure you know what I mean!) Celerio?

Re: The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto

Just came across an article that says the U215 Quanto will be positioned between the TUV300 and KUV100. Also, while the name of the car is almost certain to be changed, it is more likely to be in the aphanumeric 'a'UV'n'00 series rather than 'Canto'.
This makes sense, as the name 'Canto' still reminds of the earlier 'Quanto', and Mahindra would naturally want to break association of the U215 with the Quanto. I would not be surprised if the number 'n' in this name turns out to be 2, ie, 200, as it is going to slot in between the TUV300 and KUV100. In that case, the even number positioning will be a first for Mahindra.

Mahindra are reportedly looking to go the Maruti way in the UV segment (if we can still call the compact ones 'utility') and offer multiple products at very short price intervals. The U215 is looking like their version of the Ritz, the uglier sibling that manages to relieve the sales pressure somewhat from its more popular brethren. However, in this case, the TUV at ~3000 units per month doesn't exactly need such an alternative. So it may be positioned as an attractive upgrade to the KUV which is likely to get much more popular. A 85-90 BHP U215 with jump seats at a lakh or so away from a 75 BHP KUV would get some people thinking, and Mahindra may manage some sales that way. The U215 is also going to get an AMT option. Now whether the TUV300 still manages to hold its own on top of a similar and possibly lower priced U215 is something to be seen.

However, what is more surprising is that Mahindra are not looking to shelve the Quanto anytime soon. This U215 is only a short-term prospect. After that, a new replacement for the Quanto (U321) that's based on the all-new Xylo as a part of the global MPV platform is likely to come in by 2017.
2017 is just a year away, and the TUV300 is mere months old. An all-new Quanto - which unless Mahindra do some serious money-magic - with an increased price would fall right into the TUV300 ballpark and is likely to affect both the cars. Then there are talks going on about a full-sized TUV500 as well, and Dr.Goenka has himself said that it will exist at some point. Wonder what plans Mahindra have with the TUV300, and whether they want it to be 'just another' product from their stable as compared to the highlight product that it is now.

Indeed my thoughts. Mahindra is aware of the SUV frenzy customers in India.
The best part about them IMHO is that there are no compromises done on design part as well. It's good to see plethora of options for people like me who loves the SUV stance of a vehicle but is not ready to plonk 10L+ (atleast for now ).

New Quanto (Canto). Notice the eye-brow kind of turn indicators on top of the head lamp! Mahindra trying too much to make it SUV'ish?

The front now looks more acceptable, but they have to change the body shell and lower the height to make it sell. Any resemblance to the idiotic Xylo is a strict no for me. This front end on the TUV would have been the best design for TUV, IMO.

Re: The Mahindra Quanto Facelift. EDIT: Might be called Canto

Why can't they keep it simple.

Genio facelift above has a decent face, why go so much out of the way to add that weird 'eye brow'! Anyway, it's not like they are spoiling a good looking car.

But seriously, where will they slot it?

KUV < Canto < TUV ?
