Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Is this the car that's to be launched here ?

It appears that it's upgradeable to 180 BHP with the right parts !

Gear ratios in the Linea T-jet are a perfect blend of practicality and fun. Third gear is such a boon. You could drive around all day using 3rd like a diesel car and it still has enough grunt to come alive at the slight tap on the throttle.
I personally like the tallish gear ratios (provided it has enough grunt, which T-jet has in abundance) against the very sporty and very short gearing in my earlier Palio Gtx. I had more fun with the T-jet ratios.

I don't know how gear ratios are in the international Abarth but I would wish that Fiat doesn't go overboard with trying to make it very sporty and in the process making gear ratios very short. If they get rid of the rubbery throw then it's a bonus.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Personally; I am not a fan of the gear ratios on a T Jet. The power definitely compensates to some extent over the other Fiat cars. However; the short first is almost unusable and 2nd can't even hit the ton. It is annoying to see the rpm rise without much progress. You need to get out of first almost immediately. While the rubbery shift feel is something I have adapted to, I hate it when at times, during a quick shift from 2nd to 3rd, you hit a wall where the stick does not slot in to third. They need to fix this and the gear ratios on the Abarth. No point dumping a 130bhp motor with a lousy gearbox. I'd love to have a Swift gearbox on a T Jet.

The Abarth now comes with 17" Scorpion alloys. I presume the body of the Abarth and the Evo are the same.
So will there be any negative impact if I were to upgrade to the 17 inchers other than the wheel well not looking bare

Only body will be same rest everything will be different Suspension to braking

But they are already people who upgraded to 17". So you can safely upgrade to those alloys.

Did they say 155 bhp for the basic one? Then I guess the version planned for India at 135 bhp is further detuned.

The reviewer said blasphemous things (for a fiat car) like light steering and poor build quality

I guess our standards are too low!

The scoop pics shows 16 inchers with a scorpion alloy design.

Yeah 17 inchers are possible, but the ride will surely get harder. The suspension and brakes are upgraded. The gearbox isn't unfortunately.

155 bhp in the stock state of tune with 95 octane fuel. The one that will be launched in India is detuned to 135 bhp to match the 91 octane fuel. I did hear about it being complaint with 87 octane fuel too.

Punto Abarth Caught on Video

Quote:
Punto Abarth will be carrying the Abarth logo along with the famous scorpion claw styled alloy wheels. The doors will get a fancy red decal with Abarth gleaming in full glory. The rear boot cover clearly sports the T Jet badging although we expect the Fiat badging seen in the normal Punto Evo to be replaced by the Abarth logo in the production version.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Noticed the Bold Abarth logo at Fiat Caffe near Domlur, Bangalore. They have already added the branding at their showroom

Will this mean the Abarth cars will be launched very very soon ?

AFAIK, Punto comes with electric steering in Europe and South Africa.
There is a brighter side to having age old technologies and it can be seen on our FIATs and Ford Classics in the form of lovable hydraulic steerings

Also, coming to build quality, I guess they're referring to poor quality of platics and fit-finish issues and not the build of the body.

From what I've read, Abarth 595 will be launched some time in August. So yes, very very soon Punto might be launched near festive season.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

^^ The first 2 pictures look like this has been taken at the Tata Motors Pimpri plant. I have seen a 2 door white Abarth there among their benchmarking cars. I don't see why Fiat would get in a 2 door otherwise.

It looks like the launch is imminent. I received a promoted message on Twitter on my timeline promoting Limited Edition Abarth 3D Glasses http://foryoureyesonly.in.

From the review of the standard Abarth and this model by Fifth Gear (post #406), it has its quirks, but in the end the reviewer "quite likes it." Not sure about the light, horrible steering comment. The review is from 2008
