Nice. We were just discussing how the Fortuner rules the roost because of the lack of formidable competition. And here comes news of the Trailblazer imported by GM India.

Ladder-frame? Check
2.8 turbo-diesel with 200 horses (though the 2.5 with 163 BHP / 280 NM torque isn't bad either)
6 speed MT & AT transmissions
4WD with limited slip diff. Check
All-round disc brakes. Check.
7-seater. Yes.
Laundry list of features.

Chevrolet can do a 'Cruze' with this SUV. Remember, the Cruze had an aggressive launch and was a strong seller for the first 3 years of its life.

Here's two reports comparing it to the Fortuner:

Is it confirmed that they are going to bring Trailblazer in India? Their sales have dried up and one dealer in my locality has shut shop recently. They need to spice it up to stay in the market. But I still doubt this car, if launched, will give too much of a competition to the almighty fortuner. It could well be a scarce car like Santa Fe/Endy unless they price it well enough with gizmos all around.

re: Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV brought to India for R&D. EDIT: Now caught testing

Chevy was contemplating the trailblazer as far back as 2012 (when i bought my Captiva, i spoke to a senior GM exec on this) but the plans were shelved because (i) Bringing it in as a CBU would make it a non starter on the pricing front; and (ii) GM India plant does not have a paint shop large enough to accommodate the trailblazer!!.

so Im guessing that (ii) has changed now.

In my opinion it would be seen as a clone of the existing Fortuner. It failed miserably in the Middle East for the same reason, along with being too pricey when compared with the Fortuner.

If they bring it here then they should price it well. And pricing it well means pricing it well below the Fortuner for people to atleast contemplate going with Chevrolet leaving Toyota's brand pull. Otherwise there is no point in further discrediting your brand with another flop launch. The cruze was an example that we don't have anything against the brand and it received much acceptance. Even the Beat for that matter.

Exactly. If the price the trailblazer the way the priced the Captiva, then for sure it wont sell in any numbers. And looking at history, it seems to me that - that is the exact way GM would go - by pricing it horribly out of reach.

I think its 2.8 ( 200 BHP & 470 Nm ) & 2.5 ( 163 BHP & 380 Nm)

Chevrolet confirms Trailblazer SUV, Spin MPV India launch

Team-BHP recently received exclusive spy-shots of the Chevrolet Spin MPV on test. The report was closely followed by rumours of GM's intentions to launch the Chevrolet Trailblazer in India. While the launch possibility of both vehicles was up for speculation, it has now been officially confirmed that the North American car maker will in fact, bring the two models to India. The news was originally shared with GM India dealers during their annual meeting in Bangkok on February 13. During the dealer meeting, Arvind Saxena and GM Executive Vice President and GM International President Stefan Jacoby also announced that GM will increase GM India’s export activity. In 2015, the company plans to export around 19,000 cars to nearly 40 countries. A major part of this export activity will be to Mexico and Chile.

Chevrolet will launch the Trailblazer SUV in 2015 and the Spin MPV in 2016. Chevrolet showcased the Trailblazer at the 2014 Delhi auto expo. The variant displayed had a 2.8-liter, 4-cylinder VGT engine that produced nearly 200 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 500 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. The Trailblazer is available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. However, in markets like the Philippines, the 2.8 is offered only as an automatic, while the manual is mated to a 2.5-liter diesel. What engine makes it to India remains to be seen.

The Spin MPV on the other hand gets engine options such as a 1.2-liter 4 cylinder petrol that makes 85 BHP @ 5,600 rpm and 115 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm, along with a 1.5-liter petrol that makes 107.5 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 142 Nm of torque @ 3,800 rpm. The Spin also gets a 1.3-liter, 4 cylinder common-rail direct injection turbo-diesel engine that produces 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm.

re: Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV brought to India for R&D. EDIT: Now caught testing

http://indianautosblog.com/2015/02/c...nfirmed-167997

In the Thai market, where the trailblazer is available with diesel engines, GM offers a choice of two motors – a 2.5-liter inline diesel engine capable of 163 hp at 3,600 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm and a 2.8-liter inline diesel producing 200 hp at 3,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
The former is available with a 6-speed manual, while the 2.8-liter engine gets a 6-speed automatic transmission. Base variants offer 2WD, but the 2.8-liter top-end variant comes with a 4WD system.
At 4,878 mm in length, 1,902 mm in width, 1,838 mm in height, the Trailblazer has a wheelbase of 2,845 mm. The three-row 7-seat SUV offers ground clearance of up to 241 mm and comes with 16- or 18-inch alloy wheels.

So is the Captiva being discontinued? Or will they be selling both the vehicles at the same time?

That's a hypothetical question given that Captiva hardly sells at all

Price expectations - New Ford Endeavour & Chevy Trailblazer

Import price for New Ford Endeavour : 2,120,987 INR (3.2L)

Import price for Chevrolet Trailblazer : 7,30,552 INR (2.8 L AT)

Both are top end models.

I'm assuming there is no duty exemption for R&D vehicles. Is there a reason to believe Chevrolet is getting any duty benefits despite both are CBU ?

Does it mean the Trailblazer is a competition for XUV 500 ? Looks like Chevrolet is aiming for 15-20 L range.

your thoughts ?
