re: Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore Edit: it's the Yaris Ativ

Well, if Toyota launch this baby Corolla in India in correct and competitive price range starting from 8 ex showroom, the car certainly will fly off the shelves from Toyota showrooms.

Hopefully it will be capable enough to give Honda City some good competition.

re: Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore Edit: it's the Yaris Ativ

Toyota seems to be doing a study whether to launch the hybrid variant of the vios. The unpredictable future of diesel in India and the expense to meet bs 6 emission standards on diesel seems to over shoot the cost required for a hybrid engine. This would be a huge hit, if Toyota launches a hybrid in the 10 Lakhs price bracket. - http://indianautosblog.com/2016/09/t...d-india-242508

Thanks, but at these prices, this does not seem to an Etios replacement rather looks like the next logical upgrade from an Etios. IMHO they cant launch it at this price and get away easily with the Ciaz and City around. But you never know Toyota is on a high after the Innova success so they may just try to pull this off.

Corolla Altis price in India is around 75% of what it is in Malaysia.
Applying the same logic, the pricing should be in the range of 9.3 lakhs to 11.7 lakhs ex-showroom in India

This is really weird. Did the previous gen model have a bigger engine ?

Toyota Vios India Hybrid Launch Could Happen in 2017.

Quote:
The Vios sedan will offered with three engine options. A 1.5-litre petrol, diesel and petrol hybrid. The petrol mill produce 108 PS and 141 Nm of torque. Vios is capable to achieving 0-100 km/hr in 12 seconds. Top speed ranges around 170 km/hr. Diesel will be the same 1.4 unit which should make 90-100 PS of power. The petrol hybrid model can also make it and might come coupled to an electric motor helping in producing more power over the normal petrol engine. Petrol only engine will come with a manual while the Hybrid will come with an 5-Speed CVT.

Good pics! From the fuel over spill, it looks like a Diesel.

Its not all good news in our market when Toyota has a product which looks good on paper. Hopefully, they won't ask for all those service costs to be paid in advance along with the ex-showroom price.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find two of the biggest changes of them all. The new all-aluminium 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i – first seen on the Sienta MPV in August – finally banishes the old 1NZ-FE VVT-i mill, used since the first Vios introduced in 2003, to the history books. Headlining the revisions is variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves, instead of just the former previously.

That’s not all – the engine is also fitted with iridium spark plugs, roller rocker arms, improved piston oil jets, resin-coated piston skirts and a taper squish combustion chamber, resulting in reduced friction and increased efficiency. Even the engine cover now serves a purpose as a silencer, reducing engine noise.
Quote:
Although the new engine is certainly more advanced than what came before, the improvements haven’t had much of an effect on peak power figures. In fact, peak outputs are actually slightly lower, rated at 107 PS (-2 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm (-1 Nm) of torque at 4,200 rpm

Of course nobody buys a Toyota for aesthetics, but that car looks a bit too much like an older-gen Corolla.

Petrol Hybrid would be an interesting option if offered, though they'll probably price themselves out of the compact sedan space (real compact sedan, not Indian 'the boot's not really there' CS).

And this is what Toyota wants us to buy in 2018?? Wow they seem to take their image too seriously. With all due respect by the time the Vios settles in you will have the new city in place and it will also have to fight it out with the new Verna and even possibly all new Ventos and Rapids in 2018! The only car that I don't see changing till 2019 is the Ciaz else the complete segment is due the next gen change starting from 2017. Add to the fact that the segment itself is shrinking thanks to the craze around compact SUVs. And I'm quite sure that Toyota wouldn't offer any Turbo petrol or dual clutch boxes either.
Looks like Toyota in India doesn't wanr to lead any segment except the MUV one.

The car is looking very different in the above photos. I really liked the photos from post 123 but the ones from post 131 are horrid.
