Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

After 5 months of owning the 2014 Aria I am eagerly waiting for this one to be launched. I believe the basic mechanicals should remain more or less the same but this one has the freshness in design to pull people to showrooms. If in my small city where the dealer is one of the oldest in the country is able to sell 3-4 Arias every month the new model should multiply this number many fold.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

While researching any new vehicle, I normally start with what the manufacturer says about the vehicle ... before gravitating towards what others are saying about it.

At the TATA Motors Press Centre, there is a link to information on the concepts shown at Geneva ... http://www.gms2015.tatamotors.com/

Below is the information at http://www.gms2015.tatamotors.com/Ta...on_english.doc

TATA HEXA CONCEPT

Tata Motors showcased a muscular and sporty concept SUV, called the Tata Hexa. An intelligent choice for an active lifestyle, the Hexa concept is an elegant and sophisticated, easy-to-drive SUV, making its world premiere of at Geneva Auto Salon 2015.

The concept unveils a new direction to the design language of future TATA SUVs.

The Hexa concept’s flowing exterior lines deliver a unique exclusive appearance, for a sophisticated, modern, touring-grade SUV featuring a sculpted bonnet and sweeping roofline, coupled with large 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interiors of the Hexa concept is enveloped by luxuriously appointed leather upholstery that could seat six passengers in comfort.

Inside, smartly designed, flexible seats with soft-touch materials combine with the longest cabin in its class, to offer occupants class-leading comfort. Mood lighting adds to the ambience.

Automatic climate control, extensive sound-proofing and an audiophile grade infotainment system, add to the calm ride.

The Hexa concept is powered by an all-new 2.2 litre VARICOR 400 diesel engine with maximum output of 115 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic transmission. For difficult terrain, a torque-on-demand all-wheel drive is available.

Occupants are ensconced in the safety of 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, powerful projector beam automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers.

It looks like TATA Motors is calling this concept vehicle a SUV.

I've also noticed no mention of their explanation of the name HEXA.

Cheers,

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

I loved the aggressive front styling. Certain amount of Land rover inspired(or wanna-be)

But it looks far more compact than Aria, and also wondering is it body on frame ? looks more like a monocoque chassis.

I guess Aria design elements were all about curves and this one is lines and butch elements.

Is it just me or does everyone feel the car is production ready ? If this is concept, what are they going to chop off when it becomes production ready ?

The problem is those concepts never come to market.
This is usually the case with all their fancy concepts unveiled at Geneva - they never make it to production, or if they do its always 5 years after it should've turned up.

Thankfully this one looks more production-ready than any of the 'concepts' they have exhibited below, so perhaps there is some hope...

...maybe in 3 years instead of 5? By when competitors would've brought out 2 more iterations of the current models Tata hopes to compete against.

This version has any hope only if it hits the road this year. Else its just another exercise in showcasing intent that will never be executed. If there is no launch date, we're all wasting precious time talking about this Hexa.

So this is the "SUV" that the service guys were whispering about in my neighborhood's TATA showroom.

Important(or maybe not) info:
The HEXA might be launched within 6 months if the above mentioned persons are to be believed.

Not exactly true. Tata xover turned into aria, elegante concept is the new tata indigo manza. There was no market for indiva and aria roadstar type vehicles when they were introduced as a concepts. Hence they didnt see the light of the day.

This is the face that should be stuck on a vehicle like Safari, which does some justice to the term 'SUV' in our Indian context!

Just love the way the head lights wrap above the front fenders! (Image courtesy - http://indianautosblog.com/)

Tata is spending on these concepts but so far it looks like future has not come since I dont see them on the road.

A real concept is something like the Nexon or the Megapixel.

Sorry for the OT:

1. Maruti Celerio - Concept shown in 2013 (A-wind) production version launch in 2014.
2. Ford Ecosport - Concept shown in Auto Expo India in 2012, launch in 2013.
3. Honda Mobilio - Concept July 2013. Launch July 2014.
4. Suzuki Alivio/Ciaz - Concept 2013. Launch in India Oct 2014.

Ofcourse there are many concepts which eventually get shelved.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

It's so heartening to see Tata growing out of the seriously bad habit of making every one of their cars remind people of the Indica. Good Job, Tata! This is what the Aria should have looked like from Day 1. Obviously, this isn't all-new, but it's one of the best looking facelifts ever. A real facelift, with actual sheet metal changes. Now price it right and give it an engine it deserves.

Not seeing how this can be termed as a concept.
I thought the same. It looks as though made up of boxed parts with all that cladding. I personally am a fan of clean flowing lines and this was not to my taste at all. The kink in the rear quarter glass looks odd too!

Folks piece of advice. Dont praise the car too much or else the Tata Marketing department will come and price this car at three times its value and kill it.

Advice after watching the aria price debacle.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

Looks awesome and butch. Time to quickly get this to production and get rid of Bulky Aria or may be make only the entry variant for Taxi markets.

If they price it alongside the Innova this should see some decent sales figures. Also, the production copy should more or less look the same, if it does there are chances it might sway some private buyers from Innova also some from the XUV. 1000 pieces a month of this should be decent number to start with for Tata. Wait a sec, am I hoping for too much ?

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

Very nice job, Tata! Love the name as well, quite unique. Hopefully, it translates to an eight passenger vehicle? j/k.

Regardless, if they move it as is into the production line and bring it out within the 15L bracket, they've got a winner in their hands.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Geneva Motor Show 2015. An Aria-based Crossover!

Great looks and a worthy alternative to XUV, if launched soon enough. Now that Tata has shown their cards, it is important that they launch it before Mahindra comes up with an even better XUV design and launches it before this launch. A lot of Tata designs look contemporary for the time they showcase but become outdated by the time they finally see the assembly line. Even this design has some modern elements to it that may not be the trend a few years down the line. I hope Tata doesn't repeat the mistake of prolonging the launch and garnering the DOA again.

I'm seeing a lot of potential Innova buyers inclining towards which combined with the XUV is a very lucrative segment. Interesting times ahead.

Don't worry, they'll still under-cut their Land Rover pricing with this
