Maruti Suzuki dealers in the domestic market will contact owners of all the affected vehicles. The dealer workshop technicians will inspect the condition and carry out the necessary replacement, free of cost.

The problem was noticed on the basis of internal quality checks undertaken by the Company. Accordingly, proactive action has been initiated in the interest of customers.

From customer perspective, there is no concern if the right hand side door (front and rear) is completely latched. If however, the door is half-latched then the door may open if pressure is applied from inside. Although it is a rare condition, but in view of customer safety, the Company is undertaking replacement of the door latch assembly, proactively.

"the door may open if pressure is applied from inside" - this sounds very very scary to me.

Also, in the alto as i understand there is no warning light to show that the door is ajar (half latched), so from customer per se, this recall is surely 100% very relevant and concerning.

And sadly, most of the owners who also drive these cars care 2 hoots about the roof lamp switch that can be set to "DOOR"position so that it lights up whenever the door is not shut properly.

While wondering about such car owners is one thing, It also amazes how there are cars with the Red illumination on Dashboard for Door open too end up driving their cars with the door open completely oblivious to the warning indicator.

So this my dear friend is not a trait with budget cars alone and I would say even if this was a case with the Ciaz or the City, it would be equally unsafe with so many ignorant drivers who think owner's manual is to call Emergency Service for attending a flat tire just because you don't know how to hook up that jack.

In some vehicles the central locking keeps going from lock to unlock state if any of the doors' are ajar. That can really get your attention, which begs a question as to why don't OEs start giving central locking as standard?

Whats up with the automobile manufacturers these days, total of 700000 recalls in last two years as per the following source and with ever growing recalls, ARAI has decided to follow a code system. (Source: Business Standard Web site)

Any idea how the QA is done at these automobile factories specially parts manufactured by the third party?
