So the dragon from far east now wakes up from slumber (read 5 years).

Duster platform has credible and proven track records admired by people for robustness and ride. What people completely disliked was Renault implicating it as European Captur, this didn't go down well.

May be, Nissan Kicks might fare better, it has SUV squarish and butch look rather than crossover looks of Kaptur. Also IMO, interiors look better in Kicks, only if Nissan sticks with that nice looking touchscreen rather than current Kaptur's which is shared by Kwid as well.

Hope they manage to provide the interiors same as this image.

Where is the diesel automatic? They need to have a USP and in this segment, a diesel automatic would be a welcome addition.

Also they would need to improve the image of their sales and service centers big time if they are expecting to make a dent with this product (pun not intended!)

I just hope this does not turns out to be a half hearted attempt. Nissan has a pretty good portfolio internationally but they're struggling big time in India due to it's so called budget offerings.
It's alright to change the platform for Kick but it won't be acceptable if they change the product drastically.
I feel the Kick won't do that great in India owing to the figures on paper and it being positioned higher than Captur will definitely hit the vehicle big time.
What Nissan needs now are a good set of engines along with transmissions along with the international Kick's interior being carried over. Else the Kick will too have a fate like Captur, Dead On Arrival.

Nissan India has pushed the launch of it's compact crossover Kicks to the first quarter of 2019.

Nissan officials have divulged to ACI that they are working hard to meet a January 2019 deadline for the launch.

The Kicks will sit above the Terrano in Nissan’s India line-up. Interestingly, while the Kicks is a global model, the version for India will not come built on Nissan’s V platform. Instead, the car will be built on the M0 platform designed by its partner, Renault. The M0 also underpins SUVs like Nissan's Terrano, and Renault’s Duster and India-spec Captur. The version of Kicks coming to India will be similar in size to these models.
The Kicks looks like it will have the right ingredients, and the buzz says that Nissan is working towards an aggressively competitive price tag, too.

The kicks may have a better chance than the Captur. The stance of the car looks like a proper SUV, like the way the Indian market seems to take a liking to. Nissan should discontinue the Terrano and the kicks should be the replacement for that. And that would mean that it could possibly undercut the Creta a little bit. If they try the premium angle like every cross badged car, where one partner prices the cross badged version higher than the other, then it would mean the kicks would be more expensive than the Captur and it would be dead on arrival!

Nissan and Renault have a chance to correct the failure of Captur by doing this right, let us hope they think this right.

As far as Renault is concerned, they should just acknowledge that the Captur is a dud and focus on bringing the next gen Duster here as soon as possible.

EPA in US has classified it as a hatchback. Nissan calls it a crossover. Look wise it does look a little higher/taller than S-Cross. The interior looks great and hopefully they will carry it as is.
But given that its Nissan and their reach is not that great, not sure how successful it will be.

Rumour: Nissan Kicks to be launched in January 2019

According to a media report, the Nissan Kicks is likely to be launched in India in January 2019.

The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs-kicks.jpg

Reports suggest that the India-spec Kicks will be slightly different from the one offered globally. The interior space is expected to be increased and more features could be offered.

The Nissan Kicks is based on the M0 platform, which is shared with the Renault Captur and Duster. The car features a V-shaped grille and a dual-tone bumper with fog lamps. The rear gets boomerang-shaped tail lights and a raked windshield. The car has flared wheel arches and a floating roof finished in a contrasting shade.

On the inside, the Kicks comes with a dual-tone dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system, a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a twin-pod instrument cluster.

It has been reported that the India-spec Kicks will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. These are likely to be the same set of engines that are offered on other Renault-Nissan group products like the Terrano, Duster and Captur.

The Nissan Kicks will compete with cars like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur in the Indian market.

Nissan India has confirmed the launch schedule for their upcoming SUV, the new Nissan Kicks, which will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur. The new Nissan Kicks will be launched in India in January 2019 and will be slightly different from the one that is sold internationally. The car will be more spacious and is set to have more connectivity technology options too. The new Nissan Kicks should be priced at about Rs 11-16 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will be available with both petrol and diesel options similar to the ones found on the Nissan Terrano. While its rival, the Hyundai Cretacurrently offers an automatic, and the Renault Captur due to get an autobox option soon too, whether or not the Nissan Kicks gets an autobox at the time of launch still remains to be seen.

Kicks looks a lot more conventional and much alike the segment leader - the Hyundai Creta IMO. Should do a lot better than the Renault Captur if Nissan keeps it honest with the positioning and the pricing.

Hope they don't try and position this above the Terrano, which itself was overpriced to begin with - an even tricky situation than for Renault because Terano is priced even higher than Duster.

Sales of the Terano is nothing much to be worried about (Less than a tenth that of Duster), hence Nissan should just replace that vehicle with this Kicks at a similar price tag. Possibly even rename it as a second generation Terrano, rather than 'Kicks'.

re: The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs

Spotted testing in India for the very first time by an IAB reader on the Nilgiri mountain roads.

Quote:
The Nissan Kicks for India varies from the global version with changes observed on the beltline and rear door frame. Nissan's design chief, Alfonso Albaisa, told IAB last week that the locally adapted version, some say, looks better. We guess that the interior should have no significant differences, and the spy shot convey that the side HVAC vent design is the same.
Internationally, the Nissan Kicks rides on the V platform. For the Indian-spec version, Nissan has chosen to utilise Dacia’s low-cost B0 platform that offers an impressive ride quality among other advantages. This platform underpins the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Renault Captur. Nissan could offer its premium SUV with the 1.5-litre H4K petrol engine and the 1.5-litre K9K dCi diesel engine from these SUVs. An AWD system is not on offer globally, and we don’t expect that here either.

Unable to make out if this is yet another duster based UV with the name "kicks", just like how they managed to make a Captur out of duster unlike the global version.

The test mule looks different but too early to make any guess!!

Hope Renault-Nissan learnt their mistakes of pricing a product high without features (Kaptur) and this Kicks start in a good way!

Nissan working on compact SUV to take on Ford EcoSport. Update: Named Kicks

So is the Kicks a sub 4m compact SUV rivalling the Brezza and the Ecosport or is it the Nissan version of the Captur meaning it would be a Creta Rival?

Historically, whenever Nissan and Renault have always rebadged cars and if one borrows the Car from the other then it is supposed to be priced higher than the first one. And this is true for all cases, Duster and Terrano, Micra and Pulse, Sunny and Scala.

It will rival Hyundai's Creta and measures ~ 4.3 m in length.

re: The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs

Nissan's 'KICKS' for India will be different than the Global model:

- Different proportions and has been tailored and engineered here. ( read as chepaer version)

- Different size and more a ' SUV' look than a crossover look

- The interior is a bit more roomy and from the stance, it's more of an SUV

Hope with this talk of it going more of local, it doesn't fall flat like the K/Captur!
