Exactly my thoughts, almost every manufacturer does it to clear up old stocks, volkswagen too had done the same with Polo SR just before the launch of Gt tsi,xuv special edition was the clear hint that a facelift is on its way!

The bonnet line's merge with the headlamp and grille looks good.
That foglamp would have looked better without the chrome garnish I think.
Very Hyundai-ish!
And hey! That front grille is an actual 'honeycomb+comb' grille.

re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift revealed in spy shots EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 11.21 lakh

Thanks Aditya for the clear pics.

Few changes that I noticed (and not mentioned in the news article) are:

1. The hood is redesigned. The creases which used to run down from 2/3rd width of the hood are gone. The center is much more flat now and there seem to new bulges at the side of the hood.

2. The center of the dash seems to be completely redesigned.
The reflective portion at the top is gone, so are the silver strips on the side which used to cast irritating reflection on the windshield.
The new design also has a cowl above the infotainment screen (marked with large white circle). In earlier design, during bright sunny day it used to be very difficult to see what's on the screen due to the reflection. The cowl should prevent direct sunlight hitting the screen thereby reducing the reflection. To accommodate this cowl, the entire center portion has been raised. The storage-bin at the center of the dashboard would be deeper because of this.

3. The cowl over the dials is also redesigned. In the old design, it was a separate piece and prone to regular rattle. In the new design, it seems to be integrated with the main dashboard itself, thereby eliminating any possibility of rattles from that area.

4. Somehow the touchscreen also looks bigger and seems to have a different aspect ratio than the old one. Most likely M&M would have moved out of Nippon and plonked in a completely new infotainment unit.

I did a quick chop on what mods can be done to tone down the fog lamp area garnish.
IMO, the vehicle looks a lot better now, and i dare say, Prado-ish in appearance.

re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift revealed in spy shots EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 11.21 lakh

I loved the facelift. Couple of points -

* The new headlights look killer.
* I like the older bonnet with the creases, this one looks pale.
* The front bumper is much better, but the chrome around the fog lights is an overkill.
* The new grille looks fantastic!
* I like the subtle changes they have done to the interior. They have eliminated the silver strips which caused the glare and also the cover of the instrument console which used to rattle. In addition, it also looks much better.
* I did not like the new alloys, the previous one were much more beefier.

All in all, the facelift looks as if M&M has seriously taken into consideration some customer feedback.

P.S.: Do I see black and beige interiors? This one comes with black and plum right? Anyways, it looks more pleasing.

And is that fabric seats on the top end model?

The first impressions were quirky. Like meeting a close friend who has just shaved off his mustache (if you understand what i mean). Think, this will take some time to get used to.

That said, it should be lapped up by the market, like its predecessor.

Nice improvement from Mahindra to consider the customer feedbacks and working on it. I personally liked all the changes done to the car except for the chrome inserts on fog lamp and the bonnet design. And I am happy I waited for the facelifted version and now I cant wait more for the launch.

Well done Mahindra

The headlamp to me don't seem to have changed in shape or size. If this is indeed true, am going for a swap. I guess they have added proper DRLs this time.

re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift revealed in spy shots EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 11.21 lakh

Friend and colleague has an XUV W8 and I get to travel very frequently so here are some quick observations from the snaps Adi has posted:

1. The central HU display is definitely bigger than the current one.

2. Bonnet has been redesigned and the crease lines have changed. Looks much better I say. Beefier and lends that butch look!

3. Redesigned headlamps with the DRL tube looks better than the current one with individual LEDs. Don't miss the XUV 5OO moniker on the chrome insert just like the Superb and Laura:

4. The plastic trim atop the instrument cluster is now integrated with the dashboard:

In the current models, it was a separate trim and owners used to fill the innards with foam to prevent it from rattling.

5. The storage unit atop the HU display has been redesigned. It appears to have a matte finish.

6. The front grill with the claw-like appearance looks much better IMO.

7. The only gripe is the chrome trim of the fog lamps that extend all the way up. Benny's modified design is much better.

XUV headlight units cost quite a bit. IIRC, they used to cost 16,000 Rs per piece 2 years back. I am not so sure, spending 30,000+ on headlights just for the different shaped LED strip are worth it. Upgrading the low-beam to proper Xenon kit might be money better spent. Again, strictly my opinion. Its your money and your choice afterall.

re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift revealed in spy shots EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 11.21 lakh

M&M designers have been screwing up the original designs with every face-lift: The Bolero, Scorpio, Verito, Thar.
The XUV face-lift seems to be an exception, though. Its sensible, proportionate and clean.
I think, its high time that the M&M folks get over their lust with that damn walrus tooth grill.

Looks much matured and calmed down to me. Nice upgrade by Mahindra.

Fog lamps could have been toned down a little bit.. But ok, possibly for the next facelift.

Nice job and I hope prices don't jump up much for these..

Its much more flat and subdued and takes away a part of the striking aggressive cut of cheetah, the original theme. The dashboard looks much better now, but isn't it too much happening with those headlights, DRLs and fog lamps - as if the mandate was to put in as much as electronics and design into it all at the same time
