Rumour: Hyundai's ix35-based SUV to rival the XUV500

The ix35/Tucson-based SUV might be the latest to join the Hyundai India future launches program to take on the might of Mahindra's bestselling XUV500 in the D-segment. If finalised, it would be launched in India by 2018.

The company is also considering a premium SUV based on the ix35 platform to take on the Mahindra XUV in 2018; that, along with the new Santa Fe, will help Hyundai have an offering right across the utility vehicle range, starting from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Looks the part and ready to take on the XUV! After this one launches, is it only me who foresees the sales of the Santa Fe heading south?

However, 2018 is quite a bit away and who knows we would have an even more potent model of the XUV by then.

This new launch from Hyundai would offer that one thing which drives away people from the XUV and that's great interiors, which is a major deal breaker for some.
