Renault will unveil its new hatchback on May 20, 2015. This new car, codenamed XBA, will be aimed squarely at the Maruti Alto 800.The Renault XBA’s styling is expected to be more like a crossover than a compact hatchback which will give the car sufficient wheel travel, hence making it suitable for Indian roads. It is expected to feature a robust and stiff bodyshell and will be high on space efficiency.
It is also reported that the car will be named Kayou
Various renderings of this car are circulated in the net and one is as under.

Re: Renault Kayou launch on May 20, 2015

Very quirky styling to say the least. May not go down very well with the buyers in that bracket. The Alto800 and the likes have always had conservative looks (barring the Eon).

It'd be nice to see Renault battling it out against Maruti and Hyundai; makers that literally dictate terms in that market.

What'd really get the sales chart going is a low-cost diesel option. Wishful thinking, I guess.

Cheers!

India may not get the same quirky styling. Might click as the new alto isn't liked as much as the outgoing alto. But the after sales will pull it down. In any case, will not taste the success which the Duster enjoys, though Renault will be hoping for it.

Does it not look too big to be an alto competitor? The car size in the pic appears more like a swift competitor.

Perhaps, it would have been developed from the Datsun Redi Go platform. I remember reading about this, somewhere.
The below pictures clearly highlight similarities.

A rebadged Nissan/Datsun is also likely. A resemblance to Hyundai Eon is also seen.

Good try from Renault, especially for the crossover part and attention to long travel suspension.

BTW, any clue on what the engine spec would be, other than it being 800cc???

Autocar says that the engine. Codenamed BR-8, is an all-new 800cc, three-cylinder unit, and will make its debut in this car. The Renault XBA is also expected to come with an automated manual transmission (AMT).

Dacia has a similar offering based on the same concept.

With such small wheels and 3 wheel nuts, it is unlikely to be more than a wagon r competitor. Pricing on par with Alto might be difficult, but directly on par with Eon must be possible. Anything higher and Hyundai would take the spoils.

True. But then, sales for Alto does not really show the trend.
It is always a Up, Up and Away story for Alto!!

Consistently in the 20K per month mark(Combined Sales of Eon, Go and Spark) will hold no candles in front of it.

Some other renderings on net are promising. I love this three quarter renderings, specially the rear one. Very well proportioned.

re: Renault XBA: Now unveiled as the Kwid

If Renault don't make the same mistake as the Datsun GO and ensure that the cost-cutting isn't glaringly obvious, this little car does have a chance to achieve double the sales of the Nano at the minimum. The rear 3/4 reminds me of the V40
