Reliance Industries Limited plans to reopen all its 1,400 fuel filling stations in India by March 2016. The Mumbai-based company has already reopened more than 320 outlets.

Reliance captured a sizeable market share in India from state-owned companies in 2006. But, with prices of fuel rapidly climbing towards $ 150 per barrel and subsidies being offered to state fuel retailers, Reliance had shut down all its fuel retail outlets in 2008 along with other private retailers.

Reliance was selling fuel at a significantly higher price than public sector oil companies. This resulted in loss of clientele and the company incurred heavy losses. Now, with oil prices dropping and diesel being deregulated by the government, Reliance has decided to restart all its outlets in the country.

Most of the petrol and diesel consumed in India is sold by three state-owned companies - Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.

Happy to hear! The more the options for customers, the better. I know we have a lot of Reliance pump fans on the forum. As Highway King once said:

card! But my first choice has been Reliance.

Good news indeed! Reliance was a go-to at the time for assured clean fuel, dispensed with reliable accuracy v/s the state owned oil cos. Further the facilities provided by them is what prompted the old guard to start providing some better loos, food kiosks at their pumps as well which we now have started to utilize.

Will keep an eye out for the Thane Belapur Road pumps opening and post back here with further good news to add to this one.

Reliance has already started allocating the existing pump to the dealer. They are inviting people to bid for the same.

Agree 101% to HVkumar comments. I always used the reliance bunks while they were around.

Sadly they died an early death, nice to see they are being revived. Main motivation were the A1 plaza which were maintained well. Rumor has it that the bunks used to dispense a little more fuel quantity (or maybe exact compared to others) to give a perception of better fuel efficiency.

The barriers blocking the Reliance Pump near my house at Mysore have disappeared and the whole plot cleaned up. I suspect the pump will start operations soon!

Considering that Reliance shut shop at a time when Fuel prices was regularized, can they now be cost competitive?

Also, any plans to revive their ambitious food services and hospitality project-Reliance A One?

We'll never see too many Reliance outlets within cities, but it's going to be quite the opposite on highways.

Reliance Industries plans to fully resume its petrol pump network by March next year as government ending diesel subsidies have given it a level-playing field to compete with state-owned retailers. "Reliance plans to re-commission the entire network of 1,400 outlets by the end of FY 2015-16. As on March 31, 2015, over 300 outlets are operational," the company said in its latest annual report.

Well I wonder what will happen if the crude oil prices touch the sky once again, and the prices of petrol and diesel artificially raised (taxes and duties- applicable to PSU and Private) and then lowered (subsidies - applicable to only PSUs).
Will Reliance again scramble to close their pumps?

LOoks like this has started. Saw one long-closed bunk open today inside Bangalore city. THis one is on ORR, near the junction of ORR & Tumkur road near Goruguntepalya

Does anyone know of others in BLR city ?
