What is going on in Hyundai?
There is so much churn at the top management.Hope everything is fine at the Korean Giant at the top.
Too much churn is never a good sign.

Wasnt BVR Subbu a promoter of the company out to buy daewoo India plant in SUrajpur? IIRC he resigned from Hyundai long back.

  • First, it was Arvind Saxena leaving and joining General Motors and then VW.
  • And now we have BVR move out and join Sonalika!!
Hope everything is fine at the Korean Giant at the top.

Mr. Subbu left Hyundai nearly 10 years ago. Mr. Saxena more than 2 years ago. There is no churn as such. This is normal lateral movement within the auto industry.

Cheers,

Jay

Yes, he wanted to set up Argentum Motors as a contract manufacturer of cars in India. Then the promoter trio got into a tussle as Mr. Subbu wanted to build Daimler diesel engines. The Argentum idea died. Then he went on to start Altius Engineering, which was to launch the Scimitar 670cc diesel on-off road motorcycle based on a Kawasaki KLR650 chassis. That never saw the light of the day. No doubt that Mr. Subbu is the big idea guy, but somehow his latest stints haven't gone well.

Cheers,

Jay

Hold your horses, buddy! As others have mentioned, it has been a decade since BVR Subbu left Hyundai.

I'm a big fan of his, and I know a lot of other BHPians are too. Subbu played a pivotal role in Hyundai gaining traction in India. However, ever since he left Hyundai, he's never really had the canvas to practice his skills. It's one sad story after another. Argentum Motors, Proton, some Silicon Valley based company called Pinacle Engines...he'd even started Altius Auto to make diesel bikes :Shockked:.

Here's a great report on the Daewoo factory that was owned by Subbu's Argentum Motors - link. Also adding a Forbes article for further reading.

I'm surprised that no big car company has hired Subbu after his exit from Hyundai. Can think of many (Nissan, Renault, VW, Skoda etc.) who would benefit from his expertise.

Subbu has just been jumping from one project to the next, ever since he left Hyundai (much like Arvind Saxena).

Here's a press release (pasting as is):
