Doesn't look as awkward as i expected. The real good news is 7 Speed DSG in Diesel.

Price to be announced close to launch and that would in early H2 this year.

Prompt on launch and kept the speeches to minimum and got to the product.

Spent few minutes apologizing to all regarding the emission scandal which is good.

1.2 MPI and 1.5 TDI from the Polo
Good news. 1.5 TDI DSG. First proper Diesel Automatic in the 10L range. Bad news: No 1.2 TSI DSG.
Standard ABS and Airbags. Does not look like there will be 6 airbags.
Launch only in 2nd Half of the year. Early 2nd Half

Overall a third twin for the Polo and Vento with exactly same features. Only the engine transmission combinations differ.

Want a small petrol MT. Buy the 1.2 Polo or Ameo
Large Petrol MT: Only the 1.6 Vento
Diesel MT: Polo and Ameo (assume it is the 90bhp variant) or the Polo GT TDI or Vento (105bhp)
Petrol Automatic: Polo TSI DSG or Vento TSI DSG
Diesel Automatic: Ameo TDI DSG or Vento TDI DSG

Edit: A stupid question from the audience. Is the Automatic an AMT

Quite Bland for my liking. Good thing is airbags and abs are standard from base variant. Cruise control is a first in the segment. Good features overall but nothing groundbreaking so far. Price is the key now.

Rear looks ugly and disproportionate. ABS and Airbags are standard - Everyone learning from MSIL. Good for the Indian buyers! Pricing needs to be very aggressive in order to bring some fortune for VW.

Either ways it is competition (power) to the Aspire TDCi with the DSG as an advantage.

For me, the Ameo is the best looking sub 4m sedan out there. 1.5 Tdi with DSG should make for a great choice in the market. It has all the potential to be the segment leader if priced competitively.

VW Ameo rear and side view. The rear 3 quarter pose looks classy and elegant but the side profile looks quirky especially with the long bonnet.

The 1.5 TDI DSG is a fantastic option

. The other 2 diesel ATs, the Zest and Dzire with AMTs cannot hold a candle to the twin clutch DSG. More options opening up in the sub 10 lacs diesel AT portfolio.

Of all the 4, IMO Ameo will have the premium image and aspirational value because of the VW badge

The best-looking sub-4m sedan, IMO. Has a matured Indigo CS look.

Price will be a key factor whether it can topple the others (except DZire, obviously). Will they announce the price today? Polo is launched at 5.33L. So I expect Ameo to start at 5.83L.

2 recent trends:

i. The budget car maker Maruti is targeting the premium segments with models like Ciaz, SCross, Baleno and Brezza.

ii. Premium makers like VW watering down their image and entering into the cheaper segments!

Both see a cherry at the other end of the tunnel.

By the way, why a launch ahead of the Delhi Autoshow which commences tomorrow?
