See what the 'Made for India' ads from VW have done to Indians now

So VW India, just stick to German engineering and stay away from Jalebis, pani-pooris, etc.

If that shade makes it to the production line, I have a feeling it will also be one of the sportiest shades in sub 4m sedans.

Lol. That AMT question was hilarious. I think this is the same Ray blue Shade which comes in Baleno. Looks really good.
Has the pricing been announced as I am no longer watching the launch?

VW releases the Ameo brochure- is this blue the latest in color for launch cars ?- We had the Ray blue for Baleno launch and now a similar shade for Ameo!

Detailed feature list. ABS & twin airbags standard across range:

Dash is a straight lift from the facelifted Polo:

Central Head Unit supports MirrorLink:

Boot space is at par, if not slightly more than competition at 330 liters (DZire = 315 liters). Hinges look ugly and out of place:

Rear bench space looks like a bit of a squeeze:

Rear AC vents a welcome addition:

Wheels are humongous 215-sections riding on 16" rims:

The side view reaffirms my notion about how this car would have looked as a notchback with a coupe-like stance. Volkswagen have really missed a trick here by trying to offer something completely different than what the immediate competition offers.

A notchback would have added to the rear sloping roofline looks and given the Ameo a distinctive stance from it's side profile, plus add that extra exclusivity for the image-conscious buyers.

As it is, the side profile reminds me of the Polo mated with the DZire. The mass market might not mind that much, but for me, it's a bit plain. Hope Volkswagen doesn't rue the missed chance.

re: VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!

The boot itself and its integration are not bad looking per se and in fact, the rear looks quite nice (picture - Autocar India):

VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!-20160202014619_img20160202wa0022.jpg

However, the side profile is extremely unflattering. That long hood / bonnet (the longest of sub-4m sedans, I guess) just does not gel at all with the stubby little trunk / boot!

What's more, the beefy rear bumper of the Polo / Vento has been replaced by an extremely anorexic looking rear bumper. And the rear seat seems to have more in common with the cramped rear of the Polo, rather than the acceptably spacious one on the Vento.

It's good that VW have made ABS a standard feature as well, in addition to the dual standard airbags that they were the first to provide in this class of cars. They've included some very useful additional features too. While Ford's Aspire still remains the only sub-4m sedan to have a class-leading 6 airbags, the Volkswagen Ameo looks like it's going to be the most feature-laden one in this segment (apart from the airbag count).

I guess the Ameo has turned out to be a decent addition to the current Polo / Vento platform that will continue to soldier on till long after the next generation Polo & Vento make their way to our shores.

Volkswagen would do well to learn from Ford and now Renault that people in India prefer proper RHD control stalks (indicators on the right stalk & wipers on the left stalk).

I thought they were going to launch the car today, but it has turned out to be a mere unveiling. Why the delay?

Good Pics, thanks .

So the USP of Ameo is the Diesel DSG which is miles ahead of the Zest & Dzire AMT. Hope Ford comes up with the Aspire DCT in its powerful 1.5L diesel - that would be a wonderful line-up of Diesel automatics under 10L mark.

And amidst all this, Xcent & Amaze diesel automatics are nowhere to be seen.

That is because the Ameo is built on the Polo platform ( Wheelbase = 2469 mm) and not the Vento platform ( 2553 mm)

Honey, I butt smacked the Vento a little too hard. Now we have an Ameo.

re: VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!

I seriously hope that, the obsession with >4 meter sedans stop now. Time for more manufacturers to launch premium mini cars, to convert these sedan buyers for cars like I20/Baleno, instead of Dzire or Amaze.

Polo is a beautiful hatch and Vento is a gorgeous sedan. Then we have an Ameo now, which is borderline hideous!

So, it is just an unveiling, not the launch? Seems the launch date is second half of 2016!

I was quite close on this one!!
While it looks decent and more proportionate than other CSs around, the 165mm GC and the cramped rear benches are deal breakers. Not sure on the petrol engine too - if it can perform on this car.
330 litres of boot space is well-shaped but the hinges will definitely eat on the space, reducing usable space. But I still feel that usable boot space will be better than the Figo Aspire.

The positives are ABS and airbags throughout the range and, by the looks of it, ample headroom at the rear.

Re: VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!

On the outside, the Ameo will get auto-foldable, LED rear view mirrors, a rear view camera including parking sensors, a soft touch boot lid opener, and sixteen inch alloy wheels. Another first for the segment, the Ameo gets rain sensors which will automatically deploy wipers.

LED RV mirrors and rear camera, not available in Polo and Vento but in Ameo? 16 inch wheels too?

Re: VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!

I think they skipped giving the TSI DSG because it would affect the sales of the GT TSI which is the only model in the VW portfolio that's doing somewhat ok right now and still sells with no discounts. There is a 1.5 lac gap between Polo Tsi and the Vento Tsi. I wonder if they would be able to fit AMEO in between. Maybe at 11 Lac for a compact sedan the ordinary folks would have found it too expensive and the enthusiasts would have bought the GT Tsi anyway.

Re: VW's Polo-based compact sedan, Ameo unveiled!

Can't blame them for not trying a better design. Why spend R&D time, effort & money on aesthetics in a segment led by the ugly DZire?
The Indian CS customer loves ugly, and if it's 'premium' ugly with a boatload of features, even better!

P.S. Those boot hinges are going to kill a good bit of the already average boot capacity. How much does a set of compact hydraulic hinges cost anyway? Ford did the same with the Aspire at launch (the display model had hydraulic lifts).
