VW's compact sedan caught on test. Could be displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo and launch in mid 2016.





The compact sedan will be based on the Polo, with a similar wheelbase (the Vento has a longer wheelbase than the Polo for more rear space). This means that the boot will be large enough and the design will not look out of proposition.

The Volkswagen compact sedan will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with five-speed manual transmission, then a 1.5-litre diesel engine will also power this German sedan. The diesel will come with a five-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission option too.

Following changes/similarities are seen,

1.Revised headlamp and grille design

2. Tail lamp shape similar to Vento, but different in styling

3. Similar centre console like the Polo and the Vento

I dont understand why is VW launching this so late, IIRC VW Polo was launched in 2010 in India and they trying to use the same design in 2016 They should launch this along with the Next Gen Polo instead.

I have serious doubts as to where they will position it. The Polo is already in the price range of compact sedans such as the Amaze, and they cannot price it similarly without cannibalising the Polo. Fingers crossed!

From the picture it appears that the Polo CS has the best balanced design among all compact sedans.

It doesn't look like a compact sedan under 5m. VW are good at camouflaging their cars but this looks like a full sized sedan.

Perhaps this is the facelifted Vento being tester and not really the compact sedan?

From, the pictures, it doesn't look like its sub 4m. Remember that the polo is nearly 4m as is, that boot in the picture suggests that this car will be well above 4m.

And something is a little off about that bootlid

Saw this camouflaged car yesterday afternoon on Mumbai-Pune expressway. I thought it is the new face-lifted Vento, with the rear lights looking similar to the current one's and I didn't think it was smaller than Vento too, might be wrong though.
The central console had silver inserts like the new Polo.

I find it strange that VW would launch the 4m sedan with the current Vento/Polo as the donor car! Both are due for replacement in 2016-2017. I would have thought that they will use the next generation car as the base. They have taken forever to launch the 4m sedan ! We head about this idea at least 3-4 years back.

The next Gen Polo MK6 is speculated to be due not earlier than mid 2017, based on the MQB platform. It is still debatable whether they will launch it in India.

The sub compact segment seems a volume generator and hence though late, it is interesting to see how this car will look like when launched.

So with the Compact sedan launching in 2016 and a Compact CUV in 2017 (speculated) and its current products, VW will have a large section of the market in their product portfolio.

More than anything else, VW needs to jig up their service centres and re look at the maintenance cost.
Launching a sub 4 mtr for VW may still take another year. This considering no test mules have been spotted yet!!

Volkman, like some others pointed out, the pictured test mules does not look sub-4 m. Just like Vento, it is a full sized sedan. Probably they mistook the Vento facelift as the new CS

Coming to another fact, Polo itself is almost 4 m. I have no clue how they will make a sub-4 m compact sedan based on the Polo and having the same wheelbase. If they do, it will look something like the Verito Vibe

Are you sure its a polo based sedan or this thing in Brazil called the VW GOL / VOYAGE. It looks very similar to the polo, but it is of a lower budget i might add. The dash etc looks like it is built to a more competitive price point

Worried if they could prove you right! The way the roof line drops down from B pillar towards C is too curvy. Compared multiple Vento images and I find it suspicious now. May be the angle.

But Voyage is still 4215mm in length. However - Gol is 3895mm giving them some roof to add a tiny boot. Might not be beneficial for them to bring a new car for this segment alone though.

The latest images, I believe are just VW playing their favorite games with the spotters. Remember how the Vento was disguised as a Fiesta prior to its launch?

I think this is simply the Vento facelift and will be very similar to the one that was spotted in Russia.
