Zigwheels says that its priced around a million dollar internationally. Does it mean the on-road price for this tank would be above 10 Cr?!!

The blast resistance also got upgraded in the international model about 8-10 months back and this car is now capable of withstanding typical IED blasts.

I think this is THE ultimate armored car one can have in India!

Re: Mercedes-Benz to launch S-Guard in India on May 21, 2015 EDIT: Now launched

Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury carmaker, today launched the S 600 Guard sedan in the Indian car market. The S-Guard is basically the armoured version of the S 600 sedan. The S-Guard is priced at Rs. 8.9 crore (onwards ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The car externally looks identical to the S-Class sedan available in our showrooms and you see on the road, but the changes lie under the body shell. The S 600 Guard features armour that offers VR9-level ballistics protection to its occupants, as per the BRV 2009 guidelines. The car can easily combat 7.62 x 51mm rifle rounds. It is equipped with heat-resistant synthetic fibres, which ensures that the occupant won't injure even projectiles being fired.

The S-Guard comes with a strengthened body shell with protective components of steel integrated into the body structure and the outer body. Adding to it, the car also has Aramide and PE components that provide additional splinter protection. Its glasses are thick with polycarbonate coating.

Feature list include opaque roller blinds in the rear, heated windscreen and side windows, fire extinguisher system with automatic activation, panic alarm system, emergency fresh air system protect occupants from smoke or irritant gases, gimbal LED reading lamps in the rear, hydraulic power for the side windows, and a special cooling compartment in the rear.

Under the bonnet is a 6.0-litre V12 engine that churns out a maximum power output of 530PS and a peak torque of 830Nm. This engine is mated to Mercedes' 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The car hits an electronically restricted top speed of 210kmph, which is pretty good considering the overall weight of the car.

Re: Bollywood Stars and their Cars

Mukesh Ambani, India's richest man, has just bought his latest car: the most powerful, and armoured Mercedes Benz for his personal security.

The fortified Benz is mounted on a normal S600. The RIL car has Level-9 vehicle resistance (VR9), the highest available currently. It was customised at Benz's Sindelingen plant in Germany.

This is Ambani's second big ticket purchase this year after he spent Rs 8.5 crore on a new armoured BMW in April.

The base price of the S600 is Rs 1.5 crore. But this armoured car is likely to cost a lot more, because of import duties of 300 percent, and the sophisticated armour and other additions made to the car to make it secure. The total cost might well be around the same price he paid for the BMW.

The Benz was registered at the Mumbai Central Regional Transport Office (RTO) today. "As chairman of India's largest private conglomerate, Mukesh Ambani is the custodian of the interests of more than 2.8 million shareholders. He has Z-category security since April 2013. An armoured vehicle complies with advice of the security establishment for protectees of this level," said a source who is aware of the purchase.

An email to RIL spokesperson seeking details wasn't answered.

Demand for super-secure carriages for apex protectees in the world of business, politics and the arts has been surging globally. RIL, the source said, had to queue up at No. 57 on the global wait list for the 2015-model armoured S600. This meant a wait of eight months before the car could land in India earlier this week.

The 2015-model S600 V-9 armoured vehicle is the first in India. Actor Aamir Khan has the 2014 model.
