Pricing is expected to be around 45,000-50,000 rupees lower, variant-to-variant, than the Baleno,...
So, there is no USP for the Ignis. It's just another hatch. Is it a ploy to bring customers to the Nexa shop citing a lower entry price and once the customers are in, it's common sense that they'll pick the bigger Baleno for an additional 50K (Look Ma', a bigger car costs just additional 50K).

I was hoping this comes with an AWD. May be, that USP is going to be with the face lifted Ecosport, if they utilize the opportunity.

The Baleno, being premium will get the option.Am sure Maruti wouldn't give the Ignis the same engine at least not initially. Anyway, for a new product, why do they need this option? It'll sell well and in the mean time Baleno also will have a differentiating factor too.

Once the sales starts tapering, it makes sense to bring it. May be the vendors also will ramp up production for this engine by then.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

I can confirm the production has already started. Some of my colleagues visit Maruti Gurgaon plant and confirm that they have seen finished cars lined up after production.
My colleagues also confirm having seen Nexa stickers and a AMT diesel variant(looked like top variant)!

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

133 liters of boot space? This is pathetic even by Kei car standards.

And what a waste that they capped the length to 3700 mm. I guess despite being Suzukis biggest and most critical market (some would say only real market) we continue to get stepmotherly treatment.

I think if they offer the new infotainment system (floating type) and bigger wheels (15" on lower variants and 16" on top variants) as claimed in some of the other posts/pictures it will be good to have on a (Premium) entry-level hatchback. Needless to say, to prevent it from becoming a dud they should price it very competitively, significantly lower than the lowest Nexa offering which is the Baleno
Will be interesting to see how Maruti responds when they launch this one, given the current drop in production, sales, etc across the industry.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

An AMT paired only to the top variant will be a disappointment. As with most Nexa cars, Zeta looks to be the most VFM and should have an AMT option as well.

Agree, Maruti should make sure to offer AMT in Zeta & Alpha Trims. Those wanting features will go for Latter while one seeking Value will go with Former. Baleno looks very good in Alpha trim, but there isn't an Automatic in that Variant.

While Petrol Automatic's are common these days, Maruti should go one step ahead & price the Diesel AMT very well. This will help many buyers looking for Diesel + Auto particularly in the sub 7 lakh Segment. This should be the USP of this Ignis. Hope Maruti Realizes this. I for one have been searching for a Decent Diesel AT under 10 lakhs since years.

The Ignis might well be the 1st Step towards achieving Success in this combination at this price point.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

If the boot volume is just 133 litres as indicated, then Maruti Suzuki must provide functional roof-rails (with load-carrying ability) and also split-folding rear seats as standard across the range!

Other than the small boot and a rear design featuring flat surfaces, the Ignis has got everything going for it. If the masses don't mind that rear styling, the Ignis could well be the next superhit for Maruti Suzuki.

This micro-SUV may be a direct competitor to the KUV1OO with a similar form factor, but it would also attract a lot of conventional hatchback (and a few sub-4m sedan) buyers. Maruti Suzuki would not mind if the Ignis ends up cannibalising the sales of Wagon-R & Celerio and even Swift, DZire & Baleno to a certain extent.

Extendable to 258 liters with one rear seat down, and 415 liters with both rear seats down. (link)
