Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Out of curiosity, I took a test ride of Dezire diesel AGS, which may be a similar unit as will be used in Ignis diesel AGS. I was thoroughly irritated by the slow gear changes by the AMT unit. Ecosport's or Aspire's gear changes were far more smooth. Even if we compare diesel automatics, then the Ameo's unit is far better. In dzire AGS, whole car was losing power for a while when the gear was being changed slowly.

If this same unit does the job in Ignis, it will be quite irritating to drive.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

My VH1 music morning has changed to an IGNIS one on loop with some songs in between
Targeting the millennials who watch VH1 is good strategy but at least give us some space - don't be too clingy.
My brother during one of those ads remarked that IGNIS looks good only under the dark - I couldn't have put it any better
Pricing: Everything sells if it has a MS badge, they just price it according to the number of units they want it to do per month (case in point - S-cross, Baleno).

Crumple zones are a necessity but you just can't get away with showing something on paper and selling something else.

A friend of mine was moving out for a few years and he had 1 vehicle to chose between his 5 year old Ritz LXi (non VTVT) and 3 month old i20 sportz to be sold off, his father put his foot down and he had to part away with i20. His Dad said that he would rather drive something else than an i20, He was never happy with it.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Messed up pricing IMHO. Hope MSIL won't follow the trend (ford, fiat) for revising prices later.

I was assuming Ignis would be priced on par with the current swift and the new swift would be priced slightly above the pricing of the Ignis to keep a gap between the Ignis, Swift and Baleno.

If the Ignis sells well, will the new Swift be priced (closed to &) just below the Baleno?

@People who have seen the car: Is the car similar to the Ritz?

A friend went to check out the Ignis this morning and here are the pics he shared. (He prefers to remain anonymous)

In his own words-
-Interior plastic quality is ages better than Baleno
-Inside, it's very spacious considering the compact dimensions outside
-Build quality is better than Baleno
-Paint quality is also better compared to Baleno

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

You cannot actually compare the VW's DSG (or even Ford's) to this unit.
In terms of quick shifts/ being fun to drive & being the closest to a manual shift, the VW unit is in a league of its own.

The dual clutch offering of Ford though at times being jerky is still fun to drive and offers smooth upshifts in the higher gears.

The AMT transmissions in general are jerky and don't give you a good 'feel' while driving.

In the IGNIS, I would have preferred a CVT for the petrol and a traditional torque converter for the diesel rather than this lame AGS/AMT!

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

I don't know but why I am getting this feeling - what's so special about iGnis? All I can see the car to be just another hatchback from Maruti with not so good design. Probably a Ritz replacement, but nothing much IMO.

Where is the new WagonR Maruti? And the all new Alto?

Bring these car into a new generation avtaars instead of just pushing another one into the world of hatchback oblivion.

You spoke my mind. The design is ugly the pricing is atrocious. Other than that nothing is special.

But this being a Maruti, we will soon be eating our words.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Imagine a cheap detergent powder comes with a new product and informs the consumers that it has got everything to beat the existing premium stuff, then I wonder how many of us will be buying the product piloted by a brand selling VFM products, considering the fact that the existing premium product is very good.
MSIL is trying new and innovative things which is not bad, but since their line up of cars is so crammed the pricing seems to be the ultimate casualty. Hope it doesn't meet the fate of S Cross.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Sadly NEXA Bangalore Museum Road doesn't have an IGNIS to view and evaluate. The vehicle is expected on 18th Jan. Odd, I thought, considering the launch was yesterday!

That's a surprise. Is the case same across other Bangalore NEXA Dealers ?

I did see the Ignis on 12th Evening inside the Nexa Showroom in my city. Yesterday it was ready for launch, but I didn't go inside to check it out. I had a glance of it since I was driving.

I am really surprised by this, is the dealer playing trick by fooling customers that the car is in huge demand & hence one can't even see the demo car ?

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

I think Ignis pricing is not as bad as it looks. Compare the Ignis to Swift and Grand i10, and we can see that feature to feature Ignis is better than both. Another very important thing, many miss while comparing these 3, is safety. Maruti has been advertising their TECT body everywhere. Meanwhile Swift and Grand i10 are built on an unsafe chassis and both are basically tin cans. So if you want a car for that kind of budget, look nowhere else than Ignis (or add a bit more and go for a Baleno).

If safety is important to you, then remove Grand i10 from the list.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

After the price announcement yesterday I was a bit dis-heartened
I started evaluating my Automatic options (I'm basically replacing my 8yr old Swift Vxi 1.3PL engine)

Baleno CVT: 6 months waiting
Jazz: sorry mini MPV
Grand i10: not up for AT

Since my Primary requirement is Automatic with Fuel efficiemcy & safety features.

Lead me back to Ignis & hence my visit to the NEXA AKSHARDHAM, Delhi

The car is definitely exciting in real

Figured the dealer was also accessorizing the Ignis with OE accessories

Now only waiting for the TD to experience the AMT in the 1.2L PL engine

Enquired if I could upgrade to the Touch HU - the SE said "costs 70k"
I was like ( I know he didn't know much after he said this )

Dual tone color comes at a price premium of Rs 13,000.

"iCreate" the term to the SE was like (totally unware of the iCreate concept)

Attaching a few pics
Noticed door moulding with a carbon fibre insert (seemed like) & a chrome strip along the base of the doors

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Ignis records 6000 bookings in less than a fortnight ( final listing will be available soon, after cancellations and fresh bookings)

Quote:
Ignis is the first car in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio to offer “Android Auto” feature, expanding smartphone connectivity to android users. Android Auto allows users to control the multimedia functions via voice commands.

It helps users get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music and audio books through a remarkable touch interface. Android Auto also helps in getting real time traffic update via Google Navigation and access to other supported Apps.
