re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

I think, if priced well, this car will be a real threat to Alto.

The Looks are really good.

Plus from the monthly sales trend we can sense that the Indian buyer is slowly getting bored of the alto.

Guys

Bumping up this thread since it's been some time since anyone talked about this. Does anyone have any update on this? Any news about any tentative launch dates?

Exact dates not clear. Expected to launch during the 'Festive Season' which probably means in October.

Thanks Rajeevraj. Looks promising in terms of giving a fresh look to the segment. But Mr. Ghoshn's announcement regarding the safety features seems very vague. Hope they incorporate at least ABS and 2 airbags on the top variant.

After seeing disappointing pricing of the X-Creta and X-S-Cross, I am back to drooling on the Kwid and hoping to see an (O) version with some safety features and tyre upgrades.

Same here. But dont think it will be launched with dual airbags (just the driver side one) and abs.

Renault's KWID now spies and caught on tape.

On seeing the sales numbers off late, the real threat to Alto seems to be Swift Dzire! With options to get Car loans easily, the Indian consumer has started considering better cars in the next price brackets. The reduction in Alto sales numbers can only mean this.
When Alto sales is decreasing (from 30K in 2014 to 20K in 2015) we do not see the sales of Hyundai Eon, or Datsun Go, or Tata Nano increase accordingly.
I believe the Renault Kwid will also face the same feat if they keep it in Alto's price bracket. The much better place to be in is to be in A2 segment and compete with the likes of WagonR, Celerio, Beat, i10 etc.

The boot section after the c pillar seems to have been pulled out to carve some boot space. Looks like an afterthought and the huge gap between the tyre and wheelwell does nothing to improve the look. Having said that, from the front its a looker and Renault will have an interesting challenge if the kwid does become a success - ASS. How will they scale up and ensure that they don’t loose customers due to bad service experience.

Agreed. The whole market distribution is "shifting right" viz becoming more upmarket. Renault should quickly release Kwid across a whole spectrum of price points- right up to and beyond the top of the A2 segment. Top-end versions should be fully kitted, have the higher capacity petrol engine (expedite it please), come with airbags and AMT.

This is a great opportunity for Renault to capture volumes. They should not get distracted, or let this one go by, at any cost.

Couldn't agree more, if they can place the top 2 variants with a set of "aspirational value features" they can for sure shake that segment.

Looks like Kwid is not a kid ( in terms of size) but an adult ! Going by the looks it does seem like it has the dimensions of the Ecosport. or is it an illusion ? The vehicle does seem big for a "3-4" Lakh car (though we know with the experience of S-cross and Creta in the recent times, that this won't even be the price of the base petrol model ex-Delhi ), surely this car will be positioned in the A2 segment.

The "theory of pricing" will be widely debated and discussed and should be an interesting one, Renault might also go the Creta/S- Cross way - first a soft launch, create big time buzz in media and all forums, controlled leaks, hint of specifications, open bookings with special Diwali offer, garner maximum bookings and finally price it higher !

Interesting times ahead.

It is an illusion all right.

The dimensions of the Kwid are --
Overall Length 3680 mm
Overall Width 1580 mm
Minimum Ground Clearance 180 mm

Just as a matter of interest Datsun Go is --
Overall Length 3785 mm
Overall Width 1635 mm
Minimum Ground Clearance 170 mm

But the K(w)id definitely looks way better IMO.

This seems to be the top variant, no? I think I can see the fog lamps. Also, this car seems to have alloy wheels and roof rails + a lot of chrome slapped it. For the price Renault is expected to bring this vehicle, it surely looks super cool

With the roof rails, skirting & that well proportioned design, it definitely has a Duster-ish feel. I fervently pray all that chrome stays far far away from the final product.
