Was hoping against hope that they would rethink the 3 nut wheel. Pity.

Personalization options for the Renault Kwid is a great idea.

But how about a Safety Pack?
I hope they would have an option to add a passenger airbag as well as i read that this one's going to have only a driver airbag for the highest variant.

How difficult can that be? Renault can surely let the buyer decide and deliver as per the buyer's wish to have safety if they are going to have so many options.

The case of Kwid is a curious one. The car definitely looks way better than Maruti Alto or Hyundai Eon which it is hoping to take on. If Renault manages to offer what it is promising, Alto may be having a challenge finally.

Only thing which remains to be seen is that will Kwid be able to shift people from Maruti and Hyundai showrooms. When Eon was due to be released, it looked as if Alto is in mortal threat, but it could not effect Alto much as was expected.
I totally agree with your argument. I think the reason Eon couldn't win against the alto was that it was a really bad product. To win against alto, you need an exceptionally good product. Kwid looks like that product. But the limiting factor for its success will come from the number of sales and service outlets. Semi urban customers will never buy a Renault. This is where Renault should've had a home grown automaker as a partner. Kwid cannot beat the Alto. At best it can eat up the urban figures it possesses, which I think is very less compared to the number of altos sold. Eon is finished, in my view!

re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

Review out by Overdrive.

http://overdrive.in/reviews/2015-ren...-review-india/

Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!-renaultkwid8.jpg

Some key points from the review.
Quote:
  • The Renault Kwid has a stance which is second to none in this segment.
  • Thus far it’s the cleverest and handsomest application of plastic cladding in this segment or any other.
  • Three adults will find space on that rear bench a bit of a squeeze and certainly not encouraging for long drives. Ideally use it as a 2+2 seater.
  • Quality overall is reasonable for the class
  • That said a majority of you who use the car largely alone or with just a passenger or two at most, and rarely for a long drive out of town, will find this a perfectly adequate car to drive.
  • Ride quality is impressive with a taut character making its presence felt. I’d equate it to a few degrees lesser than the Duster, which is a class leader, but with similar levels of confidence and security.
  • The electric powered steering is surprisingly quite accurate and nicely weighed, in fact I began questioning if it was an electric unit at all
  • Brakes too felt adequate without any fade creeping in though discs all around, instead of just the ones at the front with drums at the rear, would have been a more secure way to go. Keep in mind there is no ABS and the tyres are skinny 155/80 R13s low rolling resistance types so wheel locking up in hard braking conditions are a high and harsh probability.
  • This hatchback has great potential to provide good value to its owner. It has several areas of strength like its exterior styling, a strong power train, good ride quality, confident and secure dynamics, decent feature set and a host of options that are unmatched in the segment

re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

Nice to see that it rides and handles well and also has decent steering feedback been years since a cheap fun to drive car came out (Alto K10 may have had the power to weight ratio to be fun but I never really cared for the ride and steering) Eagerly looking forward to this car.
Hope spares are cheap and the car is popular enough to create a big aftermarket scene, then cheap thrills will finally be back

What are reasons for you think Eon is a bad product? It has better looks, interiors but suffers only in mileage and ground clearance departments. Otherwise it's a competent product. It wasn't marketed well I feel.

re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

Looks to be a winner from Renault. The USP of the Kwid is the bold SUV-ish stance of the car along with segment leading interior space and boot space.Even the interiors are pretty decent for the segment. Visually, the only eyesore is the puny 13" tires - they look so tiny compared to the size of the car.Sure, there are some cheap bits like the thinnest possible seats without contouring and the 3 wheel nuts etc. Also, it's a shame that you get the passenger side wing mirror only from RXL variant onwards.
Hopefully, they will provide a good A.S.S. which will go a long way in establishing the brand.

The Kwid is bigger than Alto/Eon and even the WagonR or the I10 but weighs only 660 Kgs. I wonder about the structural rigidity and safety aspects of the car.

PS - any idea about the pricing? Will it be pitted against Alto or the Celerio/WagonR?

Suddenly the Grey/Silver with the cladding looks very good.
What is the pricing? Is it announced yet?

re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

TopGear Review: Renault Kwid

Quote:
The first impression when you get inside the Kwid is that you don't feel this is an entry-level compact car. It feels like a much bigger car. The plastics feel all right. Not great, but better than what you'd expect at this price.

Space is unlike anything we've seen in this segment. The front seats are pretty comfortable, and at the rear, there's ample leg space, too. The rear seats lack under-thigh support, though.

The boot, at 300 litres, is the biggest amongst all small cars. In fact, it's even bigger than the i20's.

Power delivery is linear, and short gearing on the five-speeder makes things sweeter while driving in the city. Throws on the gear are short, and shift quality is decently smooth.

Potholes are tackled with ease and bumps are filtered out well, unless they're really deep ones. The rear suspension is softly-sprung. The downside of the soft suspension and high ground clearance of 180mm is the body roll. There's plenty of it, more than what you'd expect from a car this size.

The steering is ultra-light. That helps manoeuvre it through tight city spaces and while parking, but when you're doing highway speeds, you need to keep correcting it constantly. It gets a bit tiring. That said, at higher speeds, the Kwid feels much more stable than the Alto.

For all the SUV-like styling, all the features and a new engine and platform, the car you see here, in its top spec, will cost Rs 3.9 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom, Delhi). And, if you opt for the base variant, we expect it be yours for just Rs 2.9 lakh.

The verdict
The best in its segment. High ground clearance, responsive engine and spacious cabin make it an excellent package.

This is what Mr. Detourbet & media have to say about the weight-safety part.
