re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

The car looks quite hot in the darker colors.

I think the major draw-back for Renault would be the sales / service centers. They should do a tie-up with TVS or someone who already have mass market presence. These cars will target both urban and a large semi-urban and rural market. Unless they have a significant reach into the non-urban market, any good product will fail. Hopefully, they are looking to expand quickly.

One other option is to get at least mobile service centers into play for getting into rural areas. For the majority of the owners, their concern would be the regular servicing (oil changes, fluids, check-ups etc.). I am sure most of these can be competently provided using a mobile unit.

Really like the way this one looks. I think we now have a new segment, Butchback
Jokes aside, I hope this one is priced well.

Power windows only in the top variant?? I hope this info is incorrect. I dont understand why renault/nissan/datsun think of Power windows as a premium feature , this same thing was done on the Datsun Go too. Maybe is is one of their "60 categories of personalisation"

I see a new 800 in the making. Maruti should be worried. A small car which does not feel as if it’s made out of tin foil. Reminds me of when the 800 was launched against the established heavy weights like Premier Padmini and the Amabassodor. If Renault can deliver good after sales service and keep the price low this car might dethrone the existing bestselling Alto/Dezire. But only time will tell.

Lot of people worried about 3 nuts on wheels. I guess we don't have to worry too much here. I know it can hold and will not cause any issue. Only problem i see is getting good alloys or in case someone needs to upgrade to 14 inch wheels. It will be difficult to get those with only 3 holes.

re: Renault's Kwid entry level hatchback unveiled EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 2.57 lakhs!

Initial reviews are coming out and looks like Renault have a winner in hand. It seems to tick all of the boxes that is expected in a car for this price segment.

Maruti will definitely have some competition and interesting days ahead.

http://auto.ndtv.com/reviews/first-d...t-kwid-1216195

A small snippet from the first ride

"On rough roads, and even off-road in fact, the Kwid was very comfortable and handled extremely well. The extra ride height means that you can take some liberties with the Kwid, and we even managed to get it on the beach to take some pretty pictures. And despite the ride height, the handling and body control is extremely good as well.

The main reason, of course, for the spritely performance, the claimed 25.17km/l fuel efficiency - which makes it the most fuel efficient petrol engine car in the country - and the excellent ride-and-handling is the low weight of the Kwid. And they've done a lot of work to engineer that in. The engine block, of course, is aluminium, but the entire intake manifold and head is plastic - which saves 2 kilos. The oil pan is also plastic, which saves another kilo. They've also worked hard to reduce the number of parts in the car, and therefore the nuts and bolts that go with them. It has only three wheel lugs for instance, and a single windshield wiper. The lead engineer for the Kwid pointed out that whereas most cars would have about 20 kilos worth of nuts and bolts, the Kwid carries just 8kgs of them."

Renault has introduced a mobile app and a virtual showroom which can help prospective buyers to check out all technical specifications with an option to book the car online

hope it helps

The more I see it, the more I marvel at the frugal engineering that this car represents without ever looking cheap. This car should succeed.

If kwid is a success, we can see some guy comes with 4 bolt design hubs or datsun GO hub matches kwid. The simplest of all is 3 bolt to 4 bolt converter plate. This makes wheel to come out few inches making it real mini SUV

Do you have any pictures / more details on this? Sounds interesting. I can imagine what it could be but have not seen anything like this in real. So if there are any pictures, please give me details. I would love to know about it. Thanks

Impressive looking car. Did not know about this car and looking at some hoardings thought this was a Swift sized car atleast.

If they could offer AT this becomes a serious buy for a daily commuter.

My skepticism aside it looks good in the darker shades.
A good small engine.
Nice roomy interiors.
Good driving position.
A little premium badging.
Going by the logic of 'less is more reliable', you get low maintenance cost.
Light on fuel too.
If priced 3- 4 lakhs, they have got a winner at hand and an easy access to 2 tier and 3 tier customer base. (Who on upgrade will consider Renault Lodgy, Fluence, Duster etc...)

There are negatives but I think I've a crush on kwid!
