Re: SCOOP! Maruti Dzire AMT caught testing (ZDi variant)

This is a superb move. They should actively consider launching an A/T with the Swift and Baleno as well. The swift still has a desirability associated with it while the Dzire is basically a budget sedan. Those who don't need the boot, will readily consider a diesel Swift or Baleno A/T instead.

At a very similar price point, the Baleno is also a better car to buy in every respect than the Dzire. I guess re Baleno diesels, Maruti's only hesitation might be (understandably so) whether they want to associate a premium NEXA offering with AMT technology. AMT will retain the attractive price point potential while regular A/T will be more commensurate with the NEXA branding.

The Baleno already has an auto petrol correct? Though it is a CVT and not am AMT.

Edit: Ah. You probably meant a AMT with the diesel. With so much noise about diesel and pollution, may manufacturers may wait and watch before making more investments.

Totally agree.

I'm not to sure how they classify a 4-speed 1980s as a premium. I still don't see how the Baleno fits in with their NEXA offering. It should have been retained in Maruti stable, and the Ciaz, S-cross, upcoming Vitara, all moving through NEXA. Hybrid technologies, Dual Clutch automatic / 6-speeds, other new technologies are signs of upgrading from a budget brand to a premium offering and they could have used these as the USPs of Nexa. Nonetheless, i think they should increase automatics across the Baleno line-up in order to boost sales.

Overall, I think its high time, they gave an option of automatic across their entire Maruti line-up using AMT, instead of trying to be overly choosy. In today's road scenario, automatic is no longer an actual luxury, its come down to a close necessity.

Re: SCOOP! Maruti Dzire AMT caught testing (ZDi variant)

Smart move by Maruti Suzuki as majority of the people who have Nexa showrroms around them will pick Baleno over the Dzire.
By bringing AMT with Diesel, Dzire will have its own exclusivity over the Baleno.

Don't understand Maruti's policy on automatic models. For some models, it is offered only in mid variant, for some other models,it is offered only in top end. What prevents them from introducing the technology in all the variants so that customers will have a wide variety of options?

Is this an AMT like in the Zest?

Price difference of just 50K for the AT over MT is terrific value for money considering there is no loss in FE, even otherwise its VFM.

There is an apprehension that manufacturers don't release AT in top end variants, but there is TUV T8, Zest XT, and now the Dzire ZDi, all diesel and under 10 lacs.

Right!!!, MSIL should have offered in VDi, if not in LDi, Zest has it in XT and XM variants, so does TUV 300 in T6+ and T8, wonder who decides these and what the thought process and the logic is?
