re: Tata developing a premium hatchback, the Altroz. Edit: Launched at 5.29 lakh.

I have a feeling that these pics would be of the Sankranti Pooja in South OR, the first car that was rolled out and the dealer did some Pooja on that occasion. I highly doubt retail sale has begun without company launching it officially.

These are not pics of a pooja, I just shot them a couple of minutes back. The showroom cleaning guys clearly told that the customer is already inside and is being updated on some pending formalities when me and my colleagues asked if we could take a proper look at the interiors.

Would've probably been for other cars. Not too sure the cleaning guys know much. Did you go inside and ask the executives about the car?

Also, this could be the dealership's test drive car. Highly doubt that cars are being delivered before launch. Customers don't even know what the price is, how will they pay and take the vehicle?

+1

Not to forget that initially, there will be some delay from the RTO side as well before a new model can be registered. I suspect these are just dealers car that are being readied for display or test drives or perhaps for temporary registration.

re: Tata developing a premium hatchback, the Altroz. Edit: Launched at 5.29 lakh.

Guys can we reroute android auto Google maps interface ( directions ) to the digital MID?
The Harrier I think uses pretty much the same digital MID, so anyone who has knowledge about it, kindly answer.
I think, if we are not able to reroute the interface to the digital MID then that would be a massive wasted opportunity. It would make long drives do much more relaxing that we can see the directions right in front of our eyes.

Saw this curious looking cutout on the Bonet cladding. Why is it there? JTP type air scoop???

re: Tata developing a premium hatchback, the Altroz. Edit: Launched at 5.29 lakh.

Went to TASS in Mangalore to update my Hexa's ICE.

Parked next to a Red Altroz. Boy did it look dashing. Spent a couple of quick minutes with the car.

Build quality is superb for the price. Interior plastics are a bit hard, but don't look cheap. But everything seems solid. Did thumb test on body panels and they hardly flexed. Finish of the hornpad should have been more rich, although the concept of the integrated horn buttons around the buttons is cool. Checked out those bulges under the ORVMs, well, they're just bulges. Maybe a camera could come later in the Altroz EV.

The Altroz was a petrol one. Switched it on, didn't drive and could feel the rumble of the 3 pot motor. Nowhere close to the refinement of the 1.2 petrol (we owned 2010 Dzire previously) from Maruti. Altroz begs for a 4 pot petrol. Hope Tata bring it ASAP.

Flicked the touch screen and it's very responsive. Unlike the 7 inch one on Hexa. The driver armrest is adjustable. Fit and finish seemed consistent. No goof up like the Harrier. The roof lining material is excellent. Not as soft as the one in the Hexa, but damn great for the price.

Finally, a neatly concealed water nozzle from Tata.

No Harrier like alignment goof up.

The handle could see some water collection post wash and during monsoons. No holes to drain water out.

Swoon worthy roof lining material.

Nice looking dash. Massive glovebox with nice damped opening action.

Excellent build. 5 Star worthy. (Look at my thumb turn yellow for reference).

Dashing looks. I expect the red to be discontinued in the Tiago in the future. See one standing next to it?

re: Tata developing a premium hatchback, the Altroz. Edit: Launched at 5.29 lakh.

Went to a showroom just to check the Altroz. All colors were on display. Liked all colors except the Gold. The car looks awesome in person.

The car is wider than my Punto. The interior width is also better. The interior fit and finish is on par with other cars even though there were a couple of wide panel gaps. Leg room, width and headroom is adequate both front and back. I thought the seat bolstering could have been better. The interior looks classy and airy with decent plastics.

The way the door shuts bought a big smile to my face, coming from my Punto. This hasn't happened with other cars recently. You have to check it to believe the build quality. Truly awesome.

The new instrument cluster is good as well, should look much better in the night.

I did a 6km test drive of the Petrol model in peak bumper traffic. The clutch is light, the gear shift was smooth enough. The flat bottom steering is awesome to hold, light enough to drive in city traffic. The car jumps the moment you release the clutch pedal, gives a bit of a jerky feel. The power is adequate for city traffic. The NVH was decent as well. The AC was powerful, the music system great. The horn is nice, takes very little effort to press.

I guess the tyres were over inflated, but ride quality was still great. The brakes were pretty good. The car drives like a big car.

What was annoying was there was a rattle from the dashboard the moment you released the clutch pedal and while driving. Bought this to the notice of the SA.

Overall a great package for a hatchback. If this doesn't sell, am not sure what else will.

re: Tata developing a premium hatchback, the Altroz. Edit: Launched at 5.29 lakh.

Not that it matters, but here's my take on the car so far. A personal showroom visit may make clear more facts.

+ Some cool features

+ Almost non existent transmission tunnel at the rear translates to more legroom

+ Good effort by TaMo, considering the whole package. Brownie points for creativity

+ Decent clutch, suspension

+ 5 Star safety

- 6 airbags a missed opportunity

- 9+ lakh for the top end is in Nexon territory. Pick your poison

- Wiper (Left) could've been better integrated. Sticks out like a sore thumb

- Thick A-pillars block visibility

- "Thick" dashboard, legroom could've been much better. Feels plasticky also

- They should've stuck to one "design shape"- curved (speedo console etc) or sharp (ORVMs etc)

Waiting for the TBHP review on the same.

Saw it in flesh today at KHT motors. Thick C pillar is similar to Nexon. No good rear visibility. Reversing camera is a must but still one needs to be super careful. Length of the car(3990mm) is same as Nexon and hence similar issues while reversing.
Rest all is well, car is super cool and no comments. Waiting for a TD.

While that seems like a very logical thing to do

It’s not available with the current setup

Thick A pillar seems to be a trait of every Tata car. Even the little Tiago has a relatively thick A pillar. Hexa and Harrier are extreme cases. They seem adamant that they won't do anything about it. Or may it has to do something with cabin intrusion in accidents or some other insider Tata logic.
