In the meanwhile the M7 gets rendered;

There are high chances of an M version of 7 series could be on offer this time

*Votes S-Class*

I too am surprised at this under-whelming release by BMW. I thought they clearly had an advantage to capitalise over the S-Class given the extra time they had to add and refine their 7 next series. Nothing special here.

The 7 series doesn't look that bad , but it's going to be very hard to beat the S class. The S class is in a league of it's own when it comes to ride and interior quality.

Is this a Lexus or a BMW? This looks so like the Lexus LS from some angles.

They have taken the headlights merging with the grill a little too far. In the 3 series it was acceptable as the car is not that wide. With the massive 7 series dimensions the grill looks stretched and enlarged and the headlights made longer just to meet. This kills the looks.

The S class was the talk of the town when launched. The 7 series didn't create an flutter in comparison.

re: 2016 BMW 7 Series. EDIT: Now spotted in India (page 3)

I'm not sure what BMW is trying to pull here. We regularly see the smaller cars in a company's portfolio following the design suit that the bigger, more premium offerings present in the market. But this looks like the love child of the 5 series and the new F30 3 series. I actually like the way the F30 looks but a stretched version of it is just not regal enough to command this price point.

I do like the interiors of this new 7er but this also falls shy of the high benchmark that the S-class has set for this segment.

Like everyone is saying, yes it does seem to have taken a little inspiration from the F30 but doesn't the S class look exactly like a larger C? And we can't jump to conclusions before even seeing it in person. BMW may look like it's not in its best form, but the best in the business also have their ups and downs! And I'm pretty sure that this drives better than the Mercedes.

Guys check out this gallery of actual photos of the 7. I think I like it a lot more in these pics than in the press release pictures. The interiors too look a lot better -

Whats with the grill. It makes it look like a mini UV head on. S-Class has no competition. Its simply too good for competition in any department.

2016 BMW 7 Series launched!

Remote control parking feature in the new 7 series key. A mini version version of what Bond could do in Tomorrow Never Dies?

re: 2016 BMW 7 Series. EDIT: Now spotted in India (page 3)

Some more interesting videos.

The C class was always designed as a mini S class.

But the 3 series and 7 series almost always stood out among the BMW portfolio with little exterior design similarity between them.
However, this time (at least the front end) the 3 and 7 look more similar. I think it was designed such to appear more sportier. I feel the long wheelbase doesn't suit this design.

Its difficult to comment looking at pictures and videos. Some of these cars look a lot different in person. You would have said, "I wouldn't be caught dead in this thing!" after seeing the pictures. But when you see it next to you in a 5 star hotel, " Mmm. Not bad. I wouldn't mind".

I remember when the first 'Chris Bangle' 7 series with i-Drive came out. The design was everybody's laughing stock and everone was very critical of the i-Drive. Soon the design grew on you. And the car didn't look as weird up close as compared to the photos. Especially in black.
Now, you cannot imagine a BMW without an i-Drive.

Personally, if I was in the market for such a car; and if I had the money, its' the S class for me.
But there are already plenty (comparatively) of these around. So if you want to be different, its' got to be the BMW. But I guess it wouldn't stand out much in its' normal trim.
The M sport version does roughen up the soft spots a bit though.

Anyway. I can't wait to see the new one on the road.

re: 2016 BMW 7 Series. EDIT: Now spotted in India (page 3)

I think BMW is increasingly confused on what they want to be known for - Sports, Luxury or a combination of both.

BMW should really play to their strengths and not try to out do the S class - Remember what Mercedes did with the C class - instead of trying to make it an entry level premium sports sedan like the 3 series, they just did what they do best - turned the C into an entry level premium luxury sedan. And the results speak for themselves - sales are through the roof.

I doubt the new 7 is going to help BMW make any dent in the S class sales - or for that matter is BMW even trying to make it a sales success or just using this as a test platform?

Going by the number of S classes on UK roads, any luxury car - 7/A8/XJ has to be something special in order to beat the king.

re: 2016 BMW 7 Series. EDIT: Now spotted in India (page 3)

The BMW 7 series may have been officially launched, but there are a couple of test mules that I saw around the city that I currently reside in. Every time I took out my phone to take some pictures, the car just zoomed away. This time though I got pictures of one such test mule, fully camouflaged right opposite to the "Haus Der Wissenschaft" building of the Technical University of Braunschweig, standing long and wide in all her glory. Without wasting time, I got on with my job.

A couple of observations :

1. It was a Long wheelbase version.
2. The interiors were all black (black leather seats and black leather wrapped steering Wheel).
3. 225/65 R17 tyres wrapped on 17 inch wheels with sensors on hub.
4. Blackened kidney grille and lower lip of bumper.
5. The dash board area was fully covered by some kind of a carpeting material with almost no access to any controls possible (indication of voice command operation, because there are no unruly wires or computers any where to be found inside the Cabin).
6. The car was running on Munich plates.

Being a long wheelbase version and also the fact that Europe is a diesel obsessed country, this could be a diesel version being tested.

Now, let the pictures do the talking.

re: 2016 BMW 7 Series. EDIT: Now spotted in India (page 3)

While the side profile and rear-end are palatable, it has a face only a mother could love.

I'll admit, the F30's headlights flowing into that flat, chunky grille look pretty good and gives it an aggressive face, but this new 7's grille looks like its about to oink oink it's way into the mud pit!

I'm sure it's a great car and is sufficiently tricked out, but if I were in the market for a super luxury sedan, I'd walk past this and get the S without a doubt.

As far as designs are concerned, BMW's hay days are well and truly behind them.

PS, Bangle, we're really, really sorry.. Please come back!

Finally a BMW 7 Series that actually looks good. The earlier versions were no match for the Mercedes S Class and the Audi A8 in the looks department at least.
