YRA will be named as Baleno

Maruti Suzuki christens new premium hatchback as Baleno, can it succeed in a new Avatar?

Looks like Maruti has chosen name as Baleno for coming new hatch back codenamed YRA. I am not too convinced with this.

Maruti Suzuki's Baleno sedan may have been ahead of time in 1999, but its re-entry into the Indian market in 2015 in a new avatar of premium hatchback could not have come at a better time.

The premium hatchback Codenamed YRA, will be now officially called Baleno and will be hitting the Indian market in the upcoming festive season and take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.

These models are finding at least 15000 buyers every month, who are willing to pay a price of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for a premium hatchback, when there are ample options available in compact sedan and SUV space, something that the buyers of the past would have automatically chosen.

Pitted to the biggest launch of FY-16 from Maruti Suzuki, the Baleno will play a critical role in the company's 2020 vision and will be a key part of company's premium NEXA outlets.

Baleno which means 'Flash' in Italian was a mere flash in the pan in the Indian market when it was launched, but with this new hatchback Maruti SuzukiBSE 0.00 % wants to create a flash in the crowded hatchback space, said a company official.

The YRA hatchback will be premiered at the upcoming 66th Frankurt Motor Show in September as Suzuki Baleno and it will be produced out of its Indian manufacturing base.

"The product has a huge significance for Maruti Suzuki as it will be by far the best vehicle made the company and in a way new face of the company. Baleno and Nexa story are currently understood, but it is going to be a big factor in Maruti Suzuki's vision of 2 million and 2020," said a company official.

Gaurav Vangaal, sr analyst for forecasting at IHS Automotive agrees.

That front looks so out of place . Why that vertical headlight, horizontal would have suited this design to the Tee

The YRA will officially be called as Baleno. Maruti will be using the decade old name again. Here is the link:

Agree with you. Front end looks ugly.
Side and rear view is okayish. This is nowhere near to the i20. Atleast they should give the grill similar to the current Swift.

I like the way this car looks. I hope it drives like a Baleno too. 1.6 engine would be great. A free revving petrol engine on a premium hatch. Wow bring it on Maruti.

I think what spoils the front looks is the chrome treatment on the grill. A simple mod can take care of that I believe.

Maruti, please ditch the name: Baleno. Not suitable for a car at all. Select something trendy and stylish.

Is it just me or this YRA is a Ciaz with the boot chopped off and grill modified?

The front looks boring and will age faster compared to the i20. It appears that it has got the largest wheelbase in its segment. But the most important thing is that Maruti Suzuki gives it a new engine instead of the same, old 1.3L.

Guys,

Do we have any idea on what could be the possible power rating of the 1.0 Boosterjet engine? (Any birdie or other info?)

Also, can we be test assured that this engine will definitely make it to the Indian car? There was some websites e saying the engine may not make it to the Indian version..seemed speculative but still

The engine being imported most likely will not be offered to the Indian market. They will not repeat the DDiS320 story!

The DDiS 320 is so expensive because it is not only imported, but also not manufactured by Suzuki. Plus, I think they have gone overboard with the pricing anyway, when maybe they did have a chance to price it lower. Greed?

Back to topic - any guesses about Boosterjet power ratings?

Re: Team-BHP Scoop Pics! Maruti YRA / Fronx Hatchback, uncamouflaged!

YRA could get twin slat grille inspired by S-Cross Grille.

We have confirmed news from our sources in Maruti, saying that they are going to be a lot of changes to the YRA when it comes to India-specific model comparing international model.

The Maruti Suzuki YRA Grill clearly will be taken from the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and it seems like all Nexa models in the future will get the same premium chrome grill. The renderings are based on the information we have received and since there is a lot of difference cosmetically, mechanically and infact dimension-ally, we are sure this is all set to happen.

Re: Team-BHP Scoop Pics! Maruti YRA / Fronx Hatchback, uncamouflaged!

For some reason I feel this has a lot of resemblance to SX4, especially the headlamps. It has a plain jain look and looks lot more matured.

Re: Team-BHP Scoop Pics! Maruti YRA / Fronx Hatchback, uncamouflaged!

I think the side and rear profile looks really nice. Front looks a disappointing specially the headlamps which resembles Swift. Suzuki should have invested a bit more time in giving headlamps a different look.

Just like S-Cross, YRA/ Baleno will be feature loaded
1. Touchscreen AVN
2. Cruise control
3. Projector headlamp
4. Height adjustable seat belts
5. Driver arm rest
6. DRLs

In preparation for the world premiere at Frankfurt International Motor Show and global unveiling, Maruti has already exported YRA to Germany and Japan.
