The Auto Expo is arguably the biggest automotive exhibition in India and is expected to host multiple reveals, launches and displays. It is jointly organized by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The Auto Expo, as always, is highly anticipated. The fact that it's held once in two years makes it even more so. Looking forward already .

What all cars are going to be unveiled / launched at the show? No one has confirmed, so it's anybody's guess. Here's my list of assumptions:

Toyota Innova
Toyota Fortuner
Maruti YRA
Ford Mustang
Jaguar XE
Chevrolet Trailblazer
Chevrolet Spin
Tata Kite
Skoda Superb
Maruti's compact SUV
Mahindra S101
VW's Polo-based compact sedan
VW Beetle
VW Passat
BMW 7-Series

Uh oh, the bad news. Some big names who are going to be absent.

Quote:
Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, Harley-Davidson, SkodaAuto, Volvo, Volvo Cars and Daimler will not be participating in the Expo, scheduled for February 2016 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. At least four of these seven were at the 12th edition of the Expo in 2014.

I'm wondering if the industry looks at newer marketing channels (like digital) to be more cost effective than the traditional exhibitions ?

re: The Mega Auto Expo 2016 Thread: General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Honestly, visiting the stall of Skoda last auto expo was a horrible experience. The staff was extremely rude, and unknowledgeable and the experience was extremely restrictive. They weren't letting any one get into the cars or have a proper look.

The Auto-Expo is too crowded to be enjoyed. Most stalls are sealed. If I just had to look at cars, i'd use the internet. I go there to sit in them, and touch them.

Hyundai had an excellent set up the last time where they were allowing everybody to sit in the cars.

Oh no!
I wanted to check out the Volvo Cars so badly.
Have to go to showroom (as a pseudo prospective customer) to check them out now. Duh.

And just a day after it was known that some big brands are not participating, Auto Expo has a comeback:

It will be a comprehensive show with OEMs participating across segments to showcase Cars, MUVs/SUVs, Two Wheelers, Three Wheelers, Special Vehicles, Concept Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles (Trucks & Buses), Vintage Cars, Super Cars and Bikes etc. Additional demonstrations at Auto Expo – The Motor Show 2016 will comprise of Tyres and Tubes, Oil Companies, Automotive Design and Technology, Engineering and IT for Automobile Companies, Institutions, Universities, Financial Institutions, Auto Insurance Companies, and Media & Auto Publications.

Announcing the development for the Auto Expo, Mr. Vishnu Mathur, Director General, SIAM, said “We are delighted to have successfully sold out the space for the upcoming Motor show”.

The total indoor exhibition area this time has increased from around 42,000 sqm in 2014 to over 50,000 sqm in 2016, which is almost a 20% growth. In the 2016 edition, there will be more than 40 vehicle manufacturers, including more than 22 for passenger and commercial vehicles. More than 18 two & three wheeler manufacturers will display their vehicles including electric vehicles.

re: The Mega Auto Expo 2016 Thread: General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

The India Expo Mart Limited (IEML) has been given a makeover prior to the forthcoming Auto Expo - The Motor Show 2016. The entire show will be held in permanent halls.

The venue has witnessed construction in the form of two large halls (with carpet areas of 25,000 square metres and 12,240 square metres respectively) being created. As a result of these new constructions, the total permanent expo area has gone up by 4,840 square metres.
The venue previously had only 8 permanent halls measuring 27,648 square metres. The remaining display was curated in temporary hangers measuring 32,400 square metres.

IEML has now constructed Halls 9-12 and 14-15 as permanent halls, complete with air conditioning, power supply cabling, concrete flooring with trenches for utilities and brick walls up to six meters, above which, insulated PUFF sheets have been used. This will help in maintaining the temperature of the halls irrespective of the season.

Unlike the old halls, which have a clear height of 5.3 meters, the new halls have a minimum height of 10 metres at the sides and 13 metres at the centres. This gives a clear height below the AC ducts of 9.5 metres in Halls 9, 10, 11, 14 and 15. Hall 12 has a side height of 15 meters and 18 metres at the centre. It will have a clear height after the AC duct of around 14.5 meters.

The newly constructed halls have provisions for 25 MW of captive power supply, if required. All the halls in the venue today are connected with uninterrupted power, supplied through gensets. The venue is also slated to have 2 pre-designated parking lots - P1 and P2, with a capacity of over 10,000 cars/bikes. The parking area would also have ticket counters.

The venue will allow free entry and wheel chair facilities for differently-abled people. It will also provide a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The venue will have multiple levels of security in the form of CISF, private security guards and local police. 24/7 CCTV surveillance will be provided within and around the venue with more than 180 cameras. The local police would have PCRs stationed in and around the venue. Under body vehicle scanners and sniffer dogs will also be present. The venue will be equipped to tackle fire hazards as well.

Can anybody explain the difference between those hours?
Does business hour have less of a crowd?
What is the best time to go there?

re: The Mega Auto Expo 2016 Thread: General Discussion, Live Feed & Pics

Volkswagen has announced that it will reveal three new models at the 2016 Auto Expo, which will be held from February 5-9, 2016 at Greater Noida. These will include the Indian Compact Sedan, the Passat GTE hybrid sedan and the Tiguan SUV.

Indian Compact Sedan (ICS) - This is a sub-4 m sedan based on the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan. Test mules of the car have been seen on our roads on several occasions. The company claims that it has been designed specifically for India, where cars with a length of less than 4 metres are eligible for excise duty benefits. The vehicle is likely to be called the "Ameo" when it goes on sale. It will compete with the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire and Tata Zest.

The combined power output of the two units is 215 BHP. According to Volkswagen, the car has a driving range of over 1,000 km and can cover more than 50 km when driven on electricity alone.

Does this mean we will not get a glimpse of the Polo GTI? I was eagerly waiting for that hot mean hatch, hoping it will be launched during the expo
