This is why buying used is a gamble. You can't trust any sources.
Agreed. But if someone takes so much effort to reset the odo before each service - you cannot manage that any which way

Re: No. 3 car seller in India? Not Mahindra or Honda, it's Maruti True Value!

When it comes to Marketing of any sort, Maruti has nailed it in India. Any used car buyer (most of whom buy first car in life), assurance plays an important rule. I was in a similar boat 2 years ago where assurance mattered more than anything while purchasing an used car.

True Value or the likes of Mahindra First Choice turn out to be perfect alternatives considering their service, ambiance of showroom, etc. I personally feel that Mahindra First Choice has purely overvalued/costly cars on sale and True Value might not be a very different case.
Kudos to Maruti though, they have got the right promotion at the right place at right price with right people!

This is not a surprising statistic and follows worldwide trends where used cars have a significant piece of the market. Since Maruti already has a big part of the market, coupled with the "True Value" offering it makes sense that they are able to get a big part of this market

Typically new car buyers would love to trade in their old cars and Maruti has made this very easy. They also offer discounts for current Maruti vehicle owners to upgrade to newer models

Re: No. 3 car seller in India? Not Mahindra or Honda, it's Maruti True Value!

Its just not True Value, but the complete second hand car business is going up. That may be because of new cars with to many variants coming up in the market, and to buy a fully loaded model might cost too much. Instead, the customer thinks why not spend on a used vehicle and buy the same car, though a bit old, and go for a fully loaded variant. This is a fact now that the market price may go down of a used vehicle due to 20% depreciation every year, but the quality of the car does not recede at the same rate. For example - a used BMW 320 D sports line of 2013 will cost something around 26 Lac today, but a new one will set you back 48.5 lac. That's less than half money directly into savings. Also, apart from a few cosmetic changes, one gets the same experience as that a BMW has while driving or being driven around.

Maruti's True Value outlets get a facelift, inspired by the NEXA theme.

An off beat question, does True Value not accept cars more than 8 years old? This has been told by someone to my brother who is planning to change his Ritz that's nearing 8 years (in April 2018).
