The Celerio was the first car in India to get an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).This technology offers the convenience of an automatic gearbox, but costs only slightly more than a manual transmission. Maruti claims that the AMT variants account for almost one third of the car's total sales.

At launch, the Celerio was available with a 993cc, 3-cylinder, 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. May 2014 saw the introduction of a CNG variant and in June 2015, a diesel version was launched. The Celerio diesel is powered by a 793 cc, 2-cylinder diesel unit that produces 47 BHP @ 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. This engine has been developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki.

According to Maruti its market share in the lower hatchback segment has gone up from 61% to 71% since the launch of the Celerio.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Celerio - 1 lakh sales up!

Here's another interesting titbit - Safely assuming a 30% share from the AMT, there are 30,000 Celerio Automatics on our roads today. I don't think any other automatic hatchback would've sold as many in a similar time frame.

Of course, the Alto AMT - which was launched later - will soon beat it. Maruti expected 20% of Alto K10 customers to pick the AMT. Even if that drops to 15%, it's still 3,000+ AMTs a month for the Alto.

I can see equal number of Celerio's on the road (AMT as well as MT). Off late the number has increased, may be the back-logs are decreasing due to more shipments arriving from the factory thanks to the AMT unit shortage. IIRC when I was taking the delivery of my K10 AMT, they still around 80 cars to be delivered (Alto AMT and Celerio AMT included).

With good acceptance by customers for the Celerio, we can be seeing some worthy additions to this car whenever they decide to give it facelift.
