Mini launches refreshed Countryman; cuts prices in India

Mini has launched a refreshed version of the Countryman in India. The car is imported as a CBU and is priced at Rs. 36.50 lakh (ex-showroom, all India).

The refreshed Countryman is available with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine and 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission only. This engine produces 110 BHP and 270 Nm of torque. Mini claims that the car can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 11.3 second and attain a top speed of 185 kph.

The Countryman gets a redesigned hexagonal grille, reworked front and rear bumpers and side skirts. Features include xenon headlights with LED fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels and vertical rear light clusters.

The interior of the Countryman features a newly configured range of interior colours, trim elements and upholstery materials. Equipment includes height-adjustable sports leather seats, multifunction, leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, paddle shifters, 40:20:40 split rear seat, and a 10-spealer 640W Harmon Kardon music system. Optional equipment includes a panaoramic glass roof. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, stability control including traction control, anti-lock braking system, brake assist and run-flat indicator.

The Countryman is also equipped with an automatic start/stop function, brake energy regeneration and electric power steering among other technologies.

Mini has also revised the price of its entire range of cars available in India. All models are imported as CBU units.

Prices (ex-showroom):
  • Cooper D 3 Door - Rs. 28,50,000
  • Cooper D 5 Door - Rs. 31,90,000
  • Cooper S 3 Door - Rs. 31,50,000
  • Cooper Convertible - Rs. 33,90,000
  • Cooper D Countryman - Rs. 36,50,000
This revision in prices comes just a day after the launch of the Fiat Abart 595 Competizione. The Cooper S 3 Door is now priced at Rs. 31.50 lakh - Rs. 3 lakh lesser than before. The 595 Competizione is priced at Rs. 29.85 lakh.

This one would be a nice company for the Fiat Abarth 595 competizione. Makes sense for both cars to be priced this huge and still holds good. Justification of Brand and price needs to be met for it to be a success. I believe Fiat has bought in some sense for the Mini pricing.

A 2.0 litre engine producing only 110bhp and that too at this price range!! Sometimes things these manufacturers do just don't make sense.

I have a doubt. The cost is based on the engine capacity alone right or is it on the tuning too? Is there any difference in production cost between giving a 110 hp and 150 hp out of the same engine? I don't understand the logic here. Rich , young people on whom the car is targeted at will be satisfied by a 110 hp vehicle ?? Especially when most of their peers are going to blaze past them in 3 series or a3??

re: Mini launches refreshed Countryman; cuts prices in India

Mini is such an important car for India Market. Unfortunately @36L it makes no sense at all. The car is a sub 20L car in any other market and yet we end up paying close to twice the price.

Pricing it @36L makes it not only a sane buy but a costly ownership over period of time.

I love the Mini and in fact i want to own one in a city like Chennai for its simplicity, size and yet power.

But price it right and you will sell more. This is not a 36L car. To me even the 3series is not a 36L car.

Whatever happened to the plan of localizing production of the entire Mini line in India, BMW?

CBU pricing at 36L. BMW is just trying to keep it niche.

My '08 Civic's petrol 4-pot 1.8 makes more power than that, and also peaks out at almost 20 kmph more!

Now, why would I buy a car that most Indians mistake for a modified Swift, and that's weaker in all the above points, for thrice the price?!?! Hmmmm...

Because you have 40 lacs sitting with you and you want to prove to yourself and your inner circle that you have made it in life and can splurge and enjoy the "finer things".

Slowly the poor Indians on the road will also start recognizing that it is not just a Swift and hence you can prove to the rest of the world also that you have made it and thus can afford to enjoy finer things in life!

Re: Mini launches refreshed Countryman; cuts prices in India

The Mini is extremely desirable especially in the 3 door S Avatar. However with all options it comes to about 45-50 lacs on road in Bangalore.
No way this is worth it.
The absolute Top Spec Mini in the US or UK comes at about half this price.
It is ridiculous that they price it so high in India.

Its ridiculous they prices cars so high in India.

Fully loaded Mini is almost on par with A4 / 3 series and C - class in US and UK. If you factor in the ridiculous discounts some of these germans hash out, the price of a mini is almost exactly the same as the price of the german trio.

Mini in India seems to be priced similarly (perhaps marginally lesser) to A4, C class and 3 series.

Its not that mini is overpriced. Cars on our shores are overpriced.

Trident Hyderabad also has a Cooper S as a part of its fleet, in the same red color. From what I have heard, as a part of each stay in the hotel, you get a free drop and pick up in any part of the city.

Does Trident also have a lot of BMWs? If so, it could be part of a deal where they get Mini Coopers at throwaway prices. Who wouldn't say no to a Mini at half the price? It'll make any hotel lobby look good.
