It is a non-linear speedo for better accuracy from what I know.

A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!-rainbow.jpg

Come on FIAT, launch the damn thing already!

My veins may have diesel flowing in them at the moment, but the thought of a 150 BHP hatch, a decent enough gearbox with ride & handling that befits a hot hatch, that striking matte grey paint, all under 1 million INR?

As Jezza would say: I'm nursing a semi

Are you sure? Because for this to be non-linear, the scale should differ at some point, but the speedometer scale in case of Abarth Punto is linear, just that it shows odd values instead of even ones.

The one in the Polo definitely looks like a non-linear speedo.

Not too sure since after 10 it goes on to odd numbering and continues that way.

Normally it starts off as even numbers it self, which is why I thought this one is non-linear at least for the slow speeds.

Thanks Sidindica for sharing your experience and photos

In this power competition between Punto and Polo, The enthusiasts are the biggest beneficiaries. with the Polo 1.8 rumoured its a powerful year ahead!
I just hope Fiat doesn't delay this more than December. Diwali would be wonderful but you never know with Fiat.

Couple for things I observed:
- Two desmodronic flip keys compared to only one for my Fiat Grande Punto. Pardon me if it is available in the Fiat Punto Evo.
- Missing armrest. Hope they add it in the production version.

I think its just to be different and nothing more to it.
the top speed printed in this Abarth Punto is 230Kmph compared to the Fiat Punto which has a top speed of 220Kmph on the speedo
Even in the Fiat Punto, if you see they have written 10 30 50 etc in small size and after 220, there is some empty space after that. they just have utilised that space and printed till the end. its just a cosmetic change.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

I was asking my friend who attended the event about any BOV and he said none of the cars had it. What does that mean, big turbo running at below optimum speed/boost or boost is controlled by ECU? The European Abarths have a BOV, does it make much difference or is it just cost control? I know it is music to the ear

Thanks a lot for this bro!

So finally the "ornamental red dot" in the Punto Evo is now displayed in it's truest sense. Quoting again from my initial ownership report:

"The Punto Evo's dot is red for the high performance 135bhp petrol, and black for other engine types. It's a neat touch that encapsulates the attention to detail, thought and engineering know-how that has gone into producing the new Fiat Punto Evo."

A 2010 article explains it; reading it is sort of sad because even after 4 years, all they managed to bring to India are "Evo" and tail-lamps. [make that 5 years ]

http://www.fiatpress.co.uk/press/article/1183"

Regarding the GC, if it's going to be 20mm less as speculated elsewhere, is it going to be 20mm less than 185mm(diesel) or 195mm(Petrol) ?
On another note, I wonder why the difference in GC between diesel and petrol models?

Now don't admonish me for asking : How much fuel efficiency can we expect from such a machine?

Good Catch about the even numbers. 230 although a cosmetic change, brings a big smile to my face.

Now that's blasphemy in this thread. 1.4 FIRE did not have boasting mileage figures. Now what can we expect here with the T-Jet. A possible double digit is treat to the senses, i would say !

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

I absolutely loved the matte grey colour, I think it looks stunning. Being a current Punto owner (and a very happy one at that) this Abarth is one mouth watering proposition. My ride is closing in on 6 years and I would definitely queue up to upgrade to this 145 bhp monster! Am praying Fiat does not go bonkers and prices this south of 10 lakhs.
Now all I need to do is to convince my wife how selling my Punto and upgrading to a Punto again makes perfect sense!

It is what I thought as well. Credit to Fiat India for taking the effort and offering Abarth clocks. They could have very well stuck to stock.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Are we getting the essess Kit as an additional fitment as well ??
If yes, that would make it even hotter under the hood.
I'm all hearts for the matt grey shade. Just have to get the front and read chome surrounds wrapped to matching orange.

This has to be by far the MOST desirable car launched in India south of 20 lakhs in the last decade. every bit of this car screams out its italian DNA. All fiat needs to do is price it sensibly and market it well. this the be the life support hat fiat needs till it gets its SUVs into India.
