Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

That's a wonderful scoop. Really happy to know the EX is more than decently loaded. Now just pray for the pricing to be decent as well.

Exactly my thoughts - its petrol is going to be a slow seller and everyone prefers a diesel Hyundai. Even if someone is willing to pay for the fully loaded diesel AT, he/she can't get one

Hyundai is always looking to skip fully loaded AT variants for its budget offerings - earlier Creta, i20 and now Verna. Atleast Hyundai can offer an optional safety package for the AT variant so that there won't be a bump up in the advertised price range.

Also, Russian spec Solaris 1.6 gets rear disc brakes while Indian version doesn't. I hope Hyundai hasn't resorted to other cost cutting tactics compared to the international version compromising its safety.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

So, the Verna SX diesel MT owners won't get these features:

- Side & curtain airbags
- Smart key
- Chrome door handles
- All-leather interiors
- Rheostat
- Adjustable rear seat headrests
- Auto Link for Connected Car tech
- Ventilated seats
- Smart trunk
- Push button Start-Stop
- Luggage hook & net.

And, the SX diesel AT owners will get these features over and above the MT:

- Leather gear knob & steering wheel
- Sunroof
- Eco-coating tech for the ACC unit
- Rear manual curtain.

Considering that the SX MT diesel might cross 14 lakhs OTR in most cities, while the SX+ diesel AT could cross 15 lakhs OTR, I feel most customers shelling out so much money for these 2 variants will be left a disgruntled lot.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

The EX seems to be have all the features which are needed in this segment. It will be pitted against the City SV. While it is pretty clear that the superior and much favoured diesel will miss the very well loaded SX(O) variant, I would like to point out that except for the SX(O) variant, all the other variants will have fixed headrests.

Hyundai really seems to like Honda, or maybe they want to live up to the saying on Team Bhp that Hyundai is the new Honda. The City until the arrival of the 2017 ZX variants never offered adjustable headrests in India. Hyundai took away the rear adjustable headrests in 2015 facelift of the Verna, and now they have re-introduced it only in the top-variant. Cost cutting in the form of adjustable headrests might be acceptable in the lower variants of B segment cars, but a car costing 10-15L shouldn't have these shortcomings.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

Look at the irony !

A company with plans to offer ventilated seats in C-Segment (would be first player to do so in this segment as such features are reserved for D Segment machines) and taking away adjustable rear headrests from all trims except SX(O).

It seems that Hyundai has resorted to cross subsidy approach; wherein they will be advertising all the features to lure perspective buyers and later multiple of them will only be offered in top end trim ! Very similar to Honda.

Look forward to the pricing now ! Lets hope they keep it close to Ciaz and not City.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

While the SX is well speeced, I wish Hyundai provided these following features on SX Diesel AT,
  • Side & curtain airbags
  • Adjustable rear seat headrests
  • Ventilated seats
  • Smart trunk

These features are very essential one's & would have justified Premium Price of AT. Even if the Verna is impressive, buyers looking for Diesel Automatic (Like Me) will have to wait for SX(O) AT.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

Hyundai is pushing those who want all the conveniences and an AT towards petrol. For some one like me who drives anywhere between 2500-3000 km every month, that burns a hole in my pocket. I quite liked that 2.0 petrol in the new Elantra but have never driven their 1.6 petrol. Time to go have a look then!

So the strategy seems clear with the variants launched. Hyundai feels that the only way to compete with the City petrol is to go head to head on price and the full option automatic with ventilated seats.

They are quietly confident of the diesel sales against the City. They will compete with the Ciaz with the EX and SX trims.

For the Enthusiasts, there is no Maruti available. Although if you are in the market for a sedan, you must drive all the options available even though at first they don't appeal to you.

Back on the topic!

The new verna looks fantstic IMO and i think when 2 cars of the same company look similar the car of the lower segment does better since it starts looking premium and this car help Verna get to 2500-3000/month. This launch with surely affect both Ciaz and City. MS is gearing up with the 1.5 L engines while City will need to buckle up.

Pricing wise even for today's date and version Verna is close to City rather than ciaz and i don't expect that to change much. I hope some day Toyota enters this segment with a nice C2 or D1 sedan with all bells and whistles

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

I don't understand the logic behind hyundai move, except for cost bracketing against the rival. Diesel versions are preferred by long distance travellers with higher usage hence require keyless entry, adjustable headrests, curtain airbags in highway etc, which is provided in petrol automatic only, mostly preferred by intra city users and ladies - probably without rear occupants, with due respect to this category of buyers. I was eager on Verna top end diesel AT. They probably lost a prospective customer.

Just don't understand why automakers design their variants this way. Variants should be designed on the basis of features, keeping some as standard across all variants. The optional part should be the fuel type and transmission which should be available with any variant. It is fine to not have AT for lower variants, but it makes absolutely no sense to have top end petrol AT and not have top end diesel AT. Also features in the variants should not be based on the fuel type as well. Hyundai always does this for some strange reason and loses out on some prospective customers. But their sales mean that this feedback is not important to them

I tried the Creta 1.6 petrol AT and it seemed to be okay for pretty relaxed driving. The moment I started pushing it, things didn't go that well and tight overtaking maneuvers had to be planned. I hope the same engine+gearbox combo works decently in Verna.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna brochure leaked

I would wait to see the pricing before jumping to variant-wise pricing. I expect them to be quite aggressive across variants in order to get back market share from Ciaz / City. Won't be surprised if they land somewhere in between both the players.

Rather, I hope they are aggressive so that it's a 3-way fight rather than the current 2-way one where City is "premium" and Ciaz is "budget". In my opinion, if they can slot in between, it would make for good competition for all 3 cars fighting for similar customers.

All Hyundai petrols (atleast the ones which have been sold in India till now) seem to perform in the same fashion. I had the 1st gen Elantra Petrol (1.8 L - 136 bhp) and now the 1.2 kappa in my Grand i10. They perform well on part throttles and gentle inputs. When you floor the throttle, there seems to be a flat spot in the rev range where nothing happens.
