Just out of curiosity, hopped onto the GM-Uzbekistan website and good old Wikipedia. GM has a lot of models for sale in Uzbekistan, but apart from the Malibu and the Orlando others are few decades old Daewoos and I even spotted a Omni clone on offer. Seems Mr.Kazem is adept in dealing and selling with discarded junk and will be very comfortable with his position in India dealing with a much smaller yet identical product portfolio.

We need newer and better cars with a peaceful ownership experience. Not new managements. The rot is down under anyways.

Found this parked in my office building. This is not yet out for sale in UAE, but probably it's here as GM's middle east operations are managed from WTC, Dubai.
My guess is, middle east GM employees are the lucky one's to drive the Spark before anyone else .

Chevrolet India is gearing up to launch several new products in India and one of them that we had mentioned is the Prisma, which will be a direct competitor to the Honda City.



This same new platform will even churn out a premium hatchback that will be called as Onix. This new hatchback will be competing with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz

Chevrolet has launched a campaign to promote the Beat - 'Shattering Perceptions'

The 'Shattering Perceptions' approach worked so well for the brand that it was taken global - today, this approach is used in 5 other Chevrolet markets around the world, including the US, Canada, Israel, Korea and the Middle East. In the US alone, there have been around 85 executions on this campaign idea so far - and going strong. It has been successful in causing a positive re-evaluation both at the Chevrolet brand level, and at the nameplate level.

What needs to be changed first is Chevrolet's perception about India

What perceptions they want to shatter, only they know. Without any significant product launch in 5 years, people are still buying their cars. What else they need us to do?

They should rather shatter their own perception towards India as a market.

Basically, Chevrolet is telling us not to walk into their showrooms before mid-2017. Great! Glad they are at least cognizant of potential customers wasting their time in their showroom.

Been hearing that the local dealer might shut shop for Purnia and Bhagalpur. The fate of plenty of Beat owners would be a worry. Many bought the Chevy Beat in '11/'12/'13 period because of its FE.

I saw the Essentia (Beat sedan) being tested yesterday here in Pune. It carried MH14- plates , and the boot looked really small and truncated, like that on the Dzire. The interior was all black, with a touch screen dominating the center console. It also had, what looked like normal, non-led DRLs.

Rather than working on making Tavera BS-IV complaint, they are wasting energy on compact sedan based on Beat. However good it might have the boot integration, Beat itself is getting quite long in the tooth. I somehow feel the Cabbie market has some appetite for Tavera. Its time GM took a call on product and price matrix.

If this continues, I dont think they would be significantly better off than Fiat in near/foreseeable future. Looks like the Exports are holding them up and helping them survive.

When the Indian government is poised to implement GST, which could potentially wipe off any tax sops based on car length / engine size, Chevrolet goes ahead and invests in the Beat sedan. Given that they did the investment a while ago before the GST implementation, it still would be wise to cut their losses and move onto something else.

GM India is reportedly all set to discontinue 3 of it's existing models - the Tavera, the Sail and the Enjoy - from April 2017.

Interestingly, the Tavera is one of the company's best-selling models.

The company will shift focus to it's upcoming Beat facelift and it's two iterations - the Beat Activ and the compact sedan Essentia - as well as concentrating on it's future premium offerings - the all-new Cruze and the premium SUV, the Trailblazer facelift.

The company is also ready to shut down it's manufacturing unit in Halol, Gujarat, from end-April 2017. All future models will be produced at their Talegaon facility.

Now it's only a matter of time before GM shuts down it's operations in India. The market reality in India doesn't align with the product portfolio of GM. It's better they shut down soon, so as not to further damage the brand reputation ( if they have any left , that is ). They hardly have the resources and people with a vision. I think they are better sans Indian market. GM India have been on ventilator for long and it's like patient party not willing to accept the truth and relieve the patient of the agony in a futile fight. Coffin is ready, hope they won't delay the inevitable.
