re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Superb pricing for what seems to be a very well rounded competent hatchback. This gives Maruti a chance to retain buyers who wanted a spacious hatch but had no options available after the swift and thus they landed up for the i20.

The Baleno is very well equipped with safety features and I am wishing this hurts Hyundai badly enough to get them off their high horses and provide safety features right from the base variants in their so called 'Elite' and 'Grande' vehicles. I appreciate Suzuki and Ford taking the lead in making road transportation safer for the masses.

The newly launched Aspire and Figo twins might also lose the initial sales momentum to Baleno.

Overall, this is good news for Indian buyers and I am expecting this to be in the top five best sellers within few months.

Swift twins will definitely face the heat IMO with the competitive pricing of the Baleno.

Considering that Baleno has ABS/Twin Airbags even from the base variant, why would one look at Swift or Dzire if they have a Nexa showroom around them.

I'm sure space wise, both passenger as well as boot area, Baleno will beat the Dzire. That too without even looking quirky or chopped.

But I guess as long as the customer purchases a Maruti product, MSIL is happy.

Quick comparison of the Baleno with the Swift twins.
Prices ex showroom, Delhi.

Automatic transmission only in delta? Is this a joke?. I thought MSIL always had the finger on the customers pulse and mindset. The long pending fully loaded automatic was also due from MSIL stable. Why MSIL why?.

The Zeta variant will run circles around Zxi/Zdi of swift. The difference is 7k for petrol and 12k for diesel, which is minuscule when compared in EMI terms.

Great pricing from Maruti Suzuki.

So now we can expect Baleno with the 1.0L Bosterjet engine top variant at a price of ~ 8.5Lakhs ex- showroom

I also read Hyundai recently hiked prices for i20, Baleno's launch should probably give them a reality check in the coming months, Figo Twins from Ford are going to take a serious hit IMO because the post launch buzz is close to non-existent and I have observed some on the fence prospective Figo and Aspire buyers on Team BHP had put their buying decision on hold for the Baleno.

I agree.

Excellent pricing for the petrol. But Diesel variant priced higher when compared to the principal competition.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

The prices seem to be at par with the competition. I believe that Maruti priced its lowest variant at ₹4.99 lakhs to get more people interested. However, IMO, this might not help with the premium tag as people might think of it as a '4 lakh car'. Also, the feature list is probably non existent for the base variant.

If I was looking to buy a car in this segment, I would get a Polo, Elite i20 or stretch my budget and get the Punto Abarth.

That said, the Baleno is very similarly positioned to the Honda Jazz. Both Maruti and Honda offer a large hatch with fuss free ownership with a CVT to boot.

Although I don't think the Baleno will do much for Maruti, it will be interesting to see how it affects the i20 which does 10k units a month, and also the Swift.

Edit: After reading all the other posts, seems like I'm the only one here who thinks the car won't be a runaway success. Oh well! :P

Superb Pricing. Never expected prices to be so low.

Mods, any hint as to when the official review is likely to come out.

Good Pricing by Maruti! But then it also makes me think, why would MSIL would like to sell the car in NEXA, who's starting price in 4.99. What is the point in investing in NEXA so much?

No SHVS varaint as of now- could be available in SHVS - Petrol after the exports starts. Good idea to contain cost if they give us the 1.0L boosterjet engine in the SHVS variant.

Is that Maruti Suzuki's game plan?

Honestly, there is no logical reason for anyone to consider buying Dzire, when a roomier vehicle is available with better performance, FE and features at a slightly cheaper price. It looks a lot better than the ugly (at least to me) Dzire as well.

But Dzire will still sell, since it is a "sedan", and the perceived prestige that comes with it. Also, there's a certain herd mentality when it comes to car buying; and Dzire has carved a name for itself as a top selling Maruti.
