re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Superb pricing! I hadn't looked at MSIL's cars since the 2011 Swift. The Baleno had managed to get my attention mainly because of 2 airbags + ABS right from the base variant and the feature loading too.

The first 3 variants in petrol offer stellar VFM. The Delta offers everything except driver's seat height adjust. The Zeta offers much more than what is needed. One advantage with this car is that it has a good petrol engine unlike most competitors and the enthusiasts need not spend a lakh or so more for the Diesel just to get an engine that isn't dud.

Now waiting to see the waiting periods shoot up to 1 year+.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale shook north India around 2.30 pm. Ford and Honda experienced it a little earlier though.

Baleno variant-wise price comparison.
  • Features in All Variants

  • Sigma vs Delta
    While the difference between petrol & diesel variants are consistent, Sigma petrol is priced 7k less in comparison to its diesel counterpart to keep the sticker price below 5 lakhs.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Better option than the Swift and Dzire both as here we are talking about better and newer vehicle and technology in that sense. More space, better looks, better service and better Nexa showrooms. Swift and Dzire both will not sell at discounts, swift now clearly competes only with the i10grand. Overall Maruti will grown numbers.

Would select the Baleno over the Dzire as well.

This is the Opp of what they did with the S-Cross the diametrically opp kind of pricing.

Figo, i20elite, Jazz, are a different brand experience, and will be impacted as well.

CVT missing in Zeta and Alpha is a major -ve also the absence of 90bhp diesel version.

In Diesel the Jazz with better tyres would be the car to get in my view.

In Petrol the Baleno for sure trumps.

The Jazz looks good and mature, the i20 elite is the model for sure but the Baleno seems to be the best deal (VFM).

Zeta is the best priced variant.

Baleno looks bigger than the competition but isn't and looking big is an important trait in India one that Swift looses out on. It is lighter and most efficient again a major plus.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Good Pricing all around!!

But the big question is will the Baleno, even with this sweet pricing, able to get out of the big ditch that Maruti has gotten itself into with the NEXA.

As a S Cross owner, I have first hand experienced this factor. In the whole of UP, which is one of the biggest Indian states; there is only one NEXA in Lucknow and a 2nd one coming up again in Lucknow. There are atleast 10 other major cities which can sell atleast 50 cars a month and MSIL is losing all those customers. I drove to Gorakhpur and to Bareilly which are decently big cities. At both places I met few of my office colleagues who were really impressed with the vehicle, but the moment they were told that they can get it only in Lucknow just backed off.

Seriously MSIL you are making a good vehicle lose in the market.

Looking at the feature-list, Delta version is much equipped to take Figo Titanium head on.

Major features which Figo Titanium has over Baleno Delta are:

-- Alloys (Can be added in aftermarket or as an accessory)
-- Fog lamps
-- Driver height adjuster

If ok to let these go then it can be formidable choice. OTR for Delta will be very close to Titanium.

OTOH, Delta has these major features over Figo Titanium

++ 60:40 Split seats
++ Rear adjustable headrests
++ Reverse parking sensors

So, good functionality, safety and convenience.

Delta sure seems VFM.

PS: I am talking about diesel variant, story for petrol should be similar too.

Congratulations on your booking. Is this the petrol variant?

What is the waiting period quoted to you?

Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled

Thank you so much. 3 to 4 weeks minimum he said. But says that he expects to deliver it earlier to me. A very nice chap. Very good to talk to.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

My take - Why couldn't MS plonk the 90 BHP tuned engine in Baleno and make it more competitive against the likes of Polo, Punto, recently launched 98 BHP Jazz & market leader i20. Each of these have relatively more power delivery than the Baleno.

The only reason I see is to give room for the launch of YBA( Vitara Brezza) with the 90HP VGT in terms of pricing and product offering.

Wow.

Superb pricing and the Delta Diesel makes it a super VFM buy.

All that you will ever require in a spacious hatch and more is present.
The feature list is long and this is something which was unheard of in a Maruti car say 3 years back.

Two thumbs way up for Maruti and the Baleno.

We have a major top car shaker in the making here and will not be surprised to see the Baleno clock in the top 5 cars regularly.

This pricing is going to cannibalize the Dzire. For slightly more bucks you get a lot more car. Below is a sample comparison:

Size:  5.2 KB

As you can see Dzire Lxi and ZXi will be the most hit. With Vxi there is still some price gap.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

I wonder if this is to herald a price drop in the Swift? Considering the Swift customers tend to gravitate toward the Grand i10.

But I expect this to be merely the introductory pricing. I like the Delta CVT and its features. Can the driver arm-rest be retrofitted?
