re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Went to check out the car at the Nexa showroom at Park Street, Kolkata today. The car looks awesome and huge. Any person looking for a spacious hatchback is surely going to fall in love with the car.

The Nexa experience was also pretty nice (quite unlike that of a regular Maruti showroom experience). Also received a chart for the on road prices of Baleno in Kolkata.

Just dont like the pseudo streched down base model pricing idea nor the extra margin top model trick.

Why bother about what people think?

Well Maruti has definitely put its best effort to date on this car, be it feature, price, size and promotion.

In terms of feature i think only the cruise has been missed out.

Definitely an interesting Diwali for new car owners with so many new launches.

Also, I hope Hyundai realize their folly and reduce their prices.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Just back from a visit to VARUN NEXA along with BHPian madhav14!

Got to have a quick look at the Baleno as the showroom was buzzing with customers for it. Many positive responses for the car and till date they have received 160 booking. TD vehicles are yet to be arrived and shall begin by Friday. The RM will give us a call when the cars arrive and we have been promised a L-O-N-G TD without any hurry.

After this we went to Talwar Hyundai to check the Elite i20 as Madhav is wanting to get a decision done as to which car is better between the Baleno and Elite i20. TD was done but another round shall suffice after the Baleno is available for TD so things can be judged well as to which wins.

Here is the price list for Hyderabad:

Great Pricing by MS. I haven't seen the car in personal but the looks have started to grow upon me.

The only missing things in the car are :

-leather seats
-cruise control

Otherwise a complete package for a hatch.

Dear Mods, A lot of members are "just a TEAM-BHP review away" from booking the Baleno. Eagerly awaiting the review

I have almost made up my mind to go for the CVT but haven't been able to TD it yet, awaiting our official review and the TD before booking

First drive report from Autocar.
Guess this was posted earlier too, I'm not sure, if yes, then re-posting for the benefit of those who had missed it

Saw the car at Nexa Cochin. It looks huge to be a hatchback and space is the biggest plus compared to Swift.

I think the IRVM protrudes a lot and it kind of block the view ahead. Not sure how it will be on the lesser variants.

Since Resale price is a factor of perception based on the first announced Exshowroom price.

I always pick the top variant and hence prefer vehicles where the top variant OTR is close to base model Exshowroom.

All companies do play with this but for a 10 L car a spread going upto 15L is much more preferred than a 5L car with a spread going upto 10L.

Also if what people think didn't matter then one wouldn't pay the premium for a Audi for a VW for a Skoda nor for any Lux badge.

EcoSport that I own has had the same price spread issue and after picking up the Aria for 18L the company went on to announce a new lower variant at 9.90 L

Can understand a spread upto even 50% of the car value but not one where the value just doubles. Too wide.

That said the car is very nice am just not appreciating the pricing of the lowest petrol and the topmost diesel variants.

Blue seems to be catching on as a colour in recent times.

How can we compare ex showroom Delhi of the lowest petrol variant on one hand, and the top end on road prices of the highest diesel variant on the other, that too Bangalore? Understandable if both prices were ex showroom Delhi at least.

For example, cars like Honda city has 7.4L ex showroom Delhi for base variant and 15.1L on road Bangalore for the top variant. No one in Bangalore would consider it as a 7.4L car because of low ex showroom Delhi prices.

The resale market doesn't work based on logic. It works on perception.

See , if you pay twice the money for a different trim level of the same car, that's 100% extra. Will u be getting the same 100% extra or double the resale value of a base petrol car for your top trim diesel car ?

The answer is a big NO. You will be lucky to get 50% extra over a base car.

The example you give is logical but not how the world seems to work in practice. Hence Marketing..

See I stay in Mumbai and all cars are announced exshowroom Delhi which is much lower than Mumbai pricing as well. Also friends around me in Mumbai (who don't own the vehicle) have always thought my vehicles were costing somewhere close to the announced lowest (as that is the only figure people remember) price but that has rarely been the case. Hence in time have felt that cars with a narrower range of variants in terms of price is something I prefer.

4.99 will be remembered for long. As was the EcoSport intro pricing.

This helps a vehicle gain market share like in the case of Duster and XUV and am fine with this as long as they don't have a wide price band as well.
