If this is true at all, being the cheapest in the lot will definitely serve as an advantage. Given the huge boot and the practical nature of this baby, the Jazz's premium will be hard to justify for someone who can look past the Baleno's ordinary looks. I think that a lot of safety-conscious-people-on-a-budget will pick this over the i20 or Jazz as the safety equipment is consistent across the range.

Well said @MetalBuff

Despite all the flak, if this is priced competitively to Swift Dzire, I would be going for it.
I don't have any expectations from Nexa and Maruti other than providing VFM product at the end of the day.

In many aspects this is a well rounded Dzire, I like Swift more than the Dzire because I couldn't digest its looks. Now that I have an option to have almost everything as swift, this is in top of my list. Lets hope Maruti prices it sensibly.

This will be a car with

- More space than Dzire
- Hopefully better handling than Jazz and i20
- Better driveability than i20 Petrol
- safety available from the entry variant onwards, so that I have a choice to add the extra bling that I want with my choice in phases(See what is happening among S-cross owners) as apposed to be forced.

Yes, this will not be a scorcher for sure and for those who want that please head to your nearest Fiat studios.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

I personally think that given the specs and the variant details of the Baleno; only one thing can save this car from becoming a failure and that would be pricing; not any pricing but somehow it has to undercut both the I20 and the Jazz (40/50K i think personally).

If this car was from the regular "Maruti" stable; things would have been different. But with NEXA and the whole premium factor, coupled with very few showrooms; they have to compete directly with the I20 and Jazz for the urban audience and that is going to be hard!

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

A recent tweet from Hormazd Sorabjee from the ongoing media drive in Jaipur confirms that the Maruti Baleno diesel variant will be using the same 75PS engine as the Swift. The petrol uses the same 84.3 bhp engine as the Swift but at a lower kerb weight of 865-890kg making the car have a high power-to-weight ratio between 94.72 - 97.46 bhp-per-tonne. Shouldn't be bad to drive.

I am very happy that I didn't comment on the looks of the car by looking at the spy pictures!
Fantastic looking from my point of view. Thanks guys for sharing! I am totally for this.

I think I have to going to eat my own words now. I don't know how but in these new pictures that have surfaced from the media drive, the car actually does not look all that bad. It actually looks good!

The interior dash also looks promising. The urban commuter might just end up liking this; like I have

The rear lamps look different in the two pics posted by bhpian volkman10.
The chrome strip at the rear also an addition in one of the cars, probably the higher spec version.

Replace that wheel-cap look alike alloy with a better design and add projector lamps and this car gets a great road presence. But looking at the current alloy design makes me laugh. This is the worst design for an alloy wheel after the s-cross. The export variant has much better looking ones. Why is maruti cheaping out like this for india.

The Baleno 1.3L DDiS is touted to have a segment-leading fuel efficiency figure of 27.39 kmpl!

The Baleno 1.2L VVT will come with a claimed FE figure of 21.4 kmpl.

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Every time I look at the pictures of the top end variant, I go crazy as to how Suzuki could possibly leave out the CVT gearbox for this variant. CVT Alpha would have been the ideal "premium" car!!

One other question, the European spec car displayed at Frankfurt had it's boot capacity as 355 litres, whereas the Indian spec car has 339 litres? What happened to the extra 16 litres of the European spec? More leg room in the Indian variant (a la the Grand i10)?

DRLS looks great, and I agree the spy pics did not look as great as this.

Question would it be possible to swap the DRL and projector equipped headlamps with the normal headlight assembly of the top end. Also similar question for touch screen system.

Maruti should have at least kept the CVT version on Zeta also.
