Agreed on the plain and functional part. But there is a world of difference in the quality and overall appearance.

Scotty could be one of many, Rudra keeps updating me with a list of names I've never heard before!

Well, Rt...think in terms of relativity. The OHC interiors were considered drab in comparision to its then competition. Today, its the Octavia whos interiors are drab compared to the Optra, Corolla, Civic etc.

Not just the interiours. Its a small car costing 12L.
I dont care if the hood is a mile long and the boot can take in a million liters of luggage. I couldnt stretch in the back seat at all, and in the front seat also my knees were uncomfortable close to the dashboard. Not a good car to sit in as a passenger if you are over 6 feet tall.
They have to make significant changes to the interior layout to deal with the competition. If Toyota comes with a 100bhp D4D corolla, it is going to hit everybody from optra to octavia real hard.

Agreed. I can stretch more in the Vtecs front seats than the Octy's.

Agreed. Had a hard time driving one in Mumbai last week with my knees on either side of the steering wheel (and I'm not even 6') and hated every moment of it. The engine is great, but the car took some beating on some really bad roads (we drove to Dombivili, which is back and beyond of nowhere) and everyone was complaining about the lack of space. My wife actually compared the rear space to the Accent (sacrilege ?) and I found the driving position really really uncomfortable with 4 adults (incl driver) and one child in the car. For a 28k kms vehicle it creaked quite a bit but it was a rental car. I'd never pay 12.80 lakhs for this vehicle, nor would I rent one again. On the way back I gave the Skoda to my cousin and drove his Wagon R.

Why is it sacrilege to speak up your mind? The Wagon R didnt bottom out, I was more comfortable driving it and the roads were in no condition for us to be able to enjoy the Octi's engine which is the real reason for driving that car. The smaller wheels made me feel more of the road, but at least I wasnt wondering whether I should steer with my knees.

I agree. But, its playing in a field of where its the only team! It has not direct competition as yet.

If Honda was really serious, they could easily launch the 2.2L diesel engine version with all goodies (AT with paddle shift) as they have done in UK. Then the Laura/Octi would certainly start sweating... But then Honda would find this civic eating into Accord sales? Honda are in a tight spot now, I think as regards pricing. I am quite sure launch of civic must have also impacted accord sales somewhat.

Current Civic should have been priced 75-100k lower (in anticipation of toyota retaliation), 2.2 diesel 150k above this level, so 50-75k above current civic pricing, new accord 250-300k above diesel civic. Then Honda would have completely wrapped up the market from 700k onwards to 1700k.
