. One more thing i would like to see if Tata has improved is the gearshift . Overall the product does look a step ahead in the pics.

Agreeing with Zappo. We wouldn't stare at the speedometer for long, anyways. It would only be a passing glance.
Had driven a friend's Spark, and frankly, forgot about the instrument cluster, since i was too engrossed in driving it
Two or more such layouts in future cars, and we'll get used to them, i guess.

Overall Indica V3 is a good step forward. And most of us know that Tata's approach towards car is VFM. So they do not try to build something that is luxurious and expensive. What they give is an alternative which is cheaper. But the bad quality and *** take the cost advantage away

That may not be a very sensible thing to do. What if the quality problems are not sorted out by 15 August? Would the initial customers be getting problem cars yet again? It would be better to delay the launch and sort out all the quality issues first.

It is said that the original Indica was launched prematurely against the advice of the production and quality deptts. causing quality issues in initial Indicas. Let's not have a repeat of all that.

yes D-Injection you are rite-basically they should seriously get rid of the quality issues-so that India will be proud about the achievement. its heard that all the issues are solved and major testing is ON. hope for the best that's it.

No car can be totally glitch free when it is launched. Although the design might have been perfected to an extent, testing might have taken place and a pilot batch of vehicles might have been rolled-out, mass production is the only way in which the assembly line setting can be perfected. So the initial lot of vehicles are more likely than not going to have those teething troubles. And that applies not only to Tata but to other manufacturers as well.

Indica V3, Lets give it a chance

Well, even if the initial quality issues are irksome and TATA has a bad reputation (though rightly so), I don't think we should speculate that the 15th August deadline (that too, unconfirmed) would hinder the car's development all that much.

Look at the Koreans, they came up with horrible copies of successful Japanese products (initially), but they trumped eveyone on the value card for a while. Now they are in a position to engineer and make cars that are genuinely good.

TATA's growth as an automobile manufacturer is stunning in my opinion, the Indica is their first "car" and just drive any of the early models to see how far they've moved ahead in engineering terms (am really tired of hearing people complain about plastic!). For a first car, it was/is a darn good effort. Let's give the V3 a chance, it might just be the product that would make us proud.

Off Topic: If case people can get hold of an Arthur Hailey bestseller called Wheels, grab it; because it has some pretty interesting insight at how initial batches are always troublesome for a new car, the way dealerships function etc.

Updates

Confirmed:

-The Indica V3 will be Named the Indica Vista
-Saphire will be the sub-name for the version which runs on Fiat's FIRE series of engines
- Production has begun with the first OK stickered models out in the factory.
- Clarion mp3 players on the factory fitted stereo models
- Will be out hunting the Swift 1.3 MJD with a vengeance. Specific focus on drivability & engine response to be as good if not better than the swifty. Also expect the price to be right in the swifts range.
- The entire welding line has been automated/robotized. Expect much better weld quality.

Slightly unconfirmed
-4 engine options
-2 fiat ones 1.3 MJD, FIRE
-2 Tata ones 1.5 diesel NA & another petrol

Will be out at the dealerships within a month.
Initial reports suggest the 1.3 runs like the wind...

Now that might not be the right thing to do!! Palio MJD itself is cheaper than Swift .

The car must be relatively light weight then. And lighter than the Swift. Or may be it is coming with 90bhp version.

So the present Indica contunues ? It can also kill MJD Palio.

It was more about the rubber parts and better QC. Generally, problems with Indica chassis were not that much compared to the niggling problems.

Appreciate TATA for this.

Again the question mark on Fire remains. I hope that the Fire turns out to be 1.6 petrol.

The petrol will be mostly 1.4 petrol with more than 100 horses.

The reports are internal, so lets wait for some other reviews.

A friend drove the Vista 1.3 MJD for 50+ KMs and came out seriously impressed. One more important thing that he told me that :
He felt the gearshift was awesome, and that is a big improvement over what we current Indixx drivers experience.
The variant names like DLG/DLS/GLS etc may not be present.
There is a rumour that variants may be named like Aqua, Terra and Aura.

Tata already offers so many engine options on the Indica range:
Diesel: NA, TC, TCIC & DICOR
Petrol: 1.2, 1.2 LPG, 1.4, CNG (?)

It will be interesting to see how they reposition the engine options.

i actually feel that the indica is slowly morphing into a palio twin!!!

but, on the other hand if you look at the way the car is sitting, you can quite clearly make out the beginnings of a rather pleasant looking sedan - a far cry from the indigo and the sienas of the present world...

so, as and when the indica hits the roads, i'd expect an up to date looking indigo following fairly sharpish!! well done mr tata!!!

The Vista weighs in at >1100 kg
The swift is 1010...
So there might be a performance lag there...
My point was.. TATA is aiming to retain the Fun drivable characteristics of the engine... and not damp it out with conservative gear ratios in a bid to improve mileage..
