But the range was never this interesting. 1.5 diesel, 1.3 diesel and two petrols. This is wide range and the engines will be better than the present engines. The 1.2 was not a proper engine for Indica, rather it was just there to take tax advantage.

The diesels are what will be interesting to watch.

guys the new indica v3 is named as "saffire" not as the English dictionary word sapphire---"saffire" indicating the FIRE range of fiat engines-and everything is in lower case.

The variant names like DLG/DLS/GLS etc may not be present.
There is a rumour that variants may be named like Aqua, Terra and Aura.
Tata will be looking to differentiate the Indica from the Vista for obvious reasons. Refinement, both in power train and trim, should be Tata's No.1 goal with the Vista. Lets hope the overall package is good enough to take on the Swift.

I hope this is not an "improvement" along the lines of Windows Vista.

Won't that conflict with Bajaj Saffire? Will that be allowed?

Nope. Saffire is discontinued long ago and Kristal is "kind of" its replacement. Both the Car and the scooter are in different segments and are not competing with each other. Hence, Bajaj cannot do anything, unless they feel that Indica is using a twin spark technology and TATA has copied that from BAJAJ

I remember reading the press release during the Auto Expo '08 it was SAFIRE then.

I only hope that the engine belongs to the Super FIRE series of engines - which can take DOHC and VVT !!

TATA should position it differently from the Indica family else,it will suffer the same fate as the Sumo Grande.

indivic-yah sure it has dohc @ opendro-amtak is right the bajaj saffire is disconti. and been replaced by a different vehicle.
@ dvr-there are a lot of rural buyers and fans of the indica due to low pricw tag-if you go to rural maharashtra you wont find swift diesels or palio diesel-you'll only find indica diesel running there. but obviously the saffire's price would be high so lets see how the lower middle class market reacts? (read-satara,sangli,beed,latur,karad,etc.)

well saw an X1 sedan today its in th testing stage-looks boring like the dzire-but engine's going to be the same fiat engine. so i think this will also be a hit like the dzire-hope not a period of 10months waiting!! question is would wait that long to own an aweful looking car?

was the sedan camouflaged or running open like V3. That would define when can we expect the sedan.

News is that the 1.2 features VVT, so perhaps you are right. I hope the 1.4 is the 100 bhp motor from the Indigo XL.

Any specs of the 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines? 8v or 16v? sohc or dohc? what are the max power and torque ratings at what rpms?

Is Indica v3 slated to get 75 bhp 1.3 JTD or the VGT one?
