Is this the same 1.8 TSi motor found in the Octavia?

I find it amusing that a 189bhp polo was caught testing in India and bhpians started hoping for a sub 20lac prize tag. While Audi launches a 188bhp A6 at 45lacs. Sure the level of equipment and luxury cant be compared but still..

Re: Audi A6 35 TFSI launched at Rs. 45.90 lakh

Are you guys sure it's the old turbo engine? It can't be that the Skoda Octavia gets the 1.8L TSi at 20L but the Audi A6 doesn't get it at 45L? The nomenclature of the model is 35TFSI. Is TFSI not TSi?

Re: Audi A6 35 TFSI launched at Rs. 45.90 lakh

Launching only in a petrol avatar with engine similar to Octy 1.8 TSI, being a non quattro FWD and Audi launch this @ 45L ?

Hell, this deserved to be the corporate edition of the A6 and should launch under 40L (no one cares about those features)

IMO this car should be boycotted.

It makes me remember that good o'l Government initiative for consumer awareness;

And to think they badge it as a "35", this dynamic badging thing is just ridiculous. It's no different than badging a BMW 320d as an M3.

I have to agree with this.
A4's are badged as 35Tdi and this as 35Tfsi.
The earlier 2.0Tdi and Tfsi with engine capacity was much better and simpler.
A8 with 3.0L Tdi is now called 60Tdi, whatever that 60 means

Coming to the A6, i think it will find takers at this price considering 3's and C's are like 40+ now.
Most of the chauffeur driven buyers with low use wouldn't usually care as to what lies under the hood.

I have to strongly disagree. Please read this thread (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...placement.html) before commenting. The 35 TFSI implies a 0-100 time of somewhere between 8-8.5 s, irrespective of the model or engine. It's a. Great and completely transparent system once you understand it.

Sorry but if this is the way badging needs to be calculated - not many guys including me are going to make anything out of this without either referring to google or calculator & I did passed my engineering ( no capitation paid ) some decade & half back

from referred thread ..

Here's how its Dynamic Badge is arrived at:

It has a 0-100 acceleration time of 8.2 seconds.

Newton’s second law of physics, which is v=u+at is applied where "a" is acceleration "v" is the final velocity and "u" is the initial velocity and "t" is the time consumed.

Here, t= 8.2 seconds, u=0 km/hr and v=100km/hr= 27.78 m/s
So, 27.78= 0 + ax8.2
a= 3.38 x100/9.81 = 34.53 which is rounded off to 35.
So its gets the Dynamic Badge 35 TDI.

Re: Audi A6 35 TFSI launched at Rs. 45.90 lakh

Audi might just be onto something here.

There is a certain segment of the market that prefers a petrol, OR are so price sensitive that the entry-level petrol is most attractive to them (this is 4 lakhs cheaper than the diesel).

BMW doesn't sell the 5-Series with a petrol anymore, while the Mercedes E-Class costs 3 lakhs more. The Jaguar XF petrol is priced well over 50 lakhs!

A smart move by Audi. The 1.8L should be enough for the commuting needs of its chauffeur-driven / sedate owners. Such clever positioning & pricing is one of the main reasons that Audi was the No. 1 luxury brand in 2014.

Very true , I know of many people within circle who will never touch the wheel ( few don't know driving at first place ! ) these guys were happy with Skoda Superb petrol , what they need for an upgrade is something like this - snob value , silent & posh interiors and an excellent pricing considering discounting by over enthusiastic dealerships pretty soon.

I agree.

The E Class has a 1991cc motor, and the XF is powered by a 1999cc engine . So nothing wrong in Audi offering the A6 with a 1798cc engine.

It is just that when people look around and see the same engine in the Octavia which sells at below 50% price of the A6, some of them might think adversely about the value aspect.

Audi's competitors do not have half priced brands, so this simply sticks out.

Thank you, that was really required. I was resisting...too much faff all over the place.

Anyhow i dont really see how the badging change might have actually helped Audi or their strategy. Trying to think about it rationally i cant think of what advantage it could possibly have other than making base variant (of any model in the range) buyers feel a little better about themselves. Personally feel these are un-necessary changes from them and mercedes too and i doubt sticking to the original nomenclature was causing any harm. On the contrary people were used to it. The earlier 2/3 tdi / tfsi badging was atleast simplistic if a little plain jane.

Anyway, i dont think even Audi expect this variant to do anywhere close to as good as the 2 diesel might. Not only do petrol running costs come into play but also the availability of the octavia and superb tsi,the latter being superior to any of the german triumvirate on rear space though its a long in the tooth now. Basically just gives the option of one more variant to the buyers to make the purchase that much more interesting and complex.
