Aren't the latest 2.0 TDI & 1.8 TSI engines imported? If so, just the fact that these engines are shared with so many VW / Skoda cars makes it a no-brainer to localise.

Hope they plan to localise & reintroduce the deadly 3.0 TDI in the Audi A4 & A6 too.

Audi realised that the majority of the Indian car buying public prefer Bells and Whistles to Bhp (nice ring to that phrase wouldn't you say?) and are giving them exactly what they want. They've discontinued all the powerful engines in the A4 and A6 both diesel and petrol (3.0 T, 3.0 TDI, 2.0 T etc) and I don't think they will reappear until the market matures (if at all something like that can happen in the Indian context ). Can't find fault with smart moves by manufacturers can we?

Even the relatively ordinary DDIS 320 is deemed expensive by a vast majority of "enthusiasts" who, to rephrase your statement, prefer 3 lakhs in the bank to 300 cc under the hood.

Now if Mercedes were to introduce a S180 in India, it would be a great hit. Not if they removed the sunroof though.

Re: Audi mulls assembly of engines in India

In September last year, it was learnt that Audi was considering the local assembly of certain engines in India. Moneycontrol now confirms that the 2.0L TDI engine that is used in several Volkswagen group vehicles, will be locally assembled in India by the end of 2016.
