I don't think Nexon being heavier should matter since the power and torque is considerably more.

With 6-gear transmission, I would expect first 5 gears of Nexon to be shorter than those of Brezza. This should further contribute to better acceleration.
A comparison based purely on specifications of prime competitors in this segment.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Nexon is a second slower to 100kph but the in gear acceleration numbers are much better than Brezza. I guess the higher torque figure comes into play here and in real world driving will be more relaxing to drive with fewer gearshifts.
Figures from WHAT CAR sister magazine of Autocar India.

20-80kph 3rd gear Nexon 9.93 sec Brezza 11.77 sec.
40-100kph 4th gear Nexon 10.74 sec Brezza 15.2 sec.

For reference the S cross 1.6 does the same in 12.36 and 13.26 sec respectively.

Here is a picture of the dash without the floating screen, base variant(?)

Edit:
Autocar speculates this to be XT variant.
Floating screen will be one of the big attractions, Tata should give this from XM variant or can have as an option in all lower variants.

Am glad they didnt go the Ignis way by using the same housing of the floating screen for a lower spec ICE. Having a traditional housing makes the Nexon interior much cleaner and wont keep reminding the owners of this variant that they are missing on something desirable!

With the floating screen gone, where is the space for ICE? Don't see it anywhere

Edit: Just noticed a few knobs and buttons below the AC vents. Man, this looks like the Murphy radio of the yester years.

Wow!
They really should have offered the floating screen as standard.
Being recessed so deep, I think the screen looks even smaller!
Add to that the black cap to cover the start stop button.

This definitely screws up the best part about the car in the lower versions (which I feel is the interiors)
They better come up with some starting price that blows people's minds away!

The housing for the ICE looks hideous. They should have rather gone the way of Maruti Ignis, and should have given a floating type ICE standard on every variant, with reduced functionality in the lower variants. As hideous as the ICE of the lower variants of Ignis looks, it still looks much better than this recessed ICE.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Even if they planned something good in Nexon, the product team at Tata's are always game for screwing it up !

What is this that they are going to offer in lower trims ! A buyer is left with no choice for an aftermarket fitment of an updated ICE.

Blunder by the product composition / trim decision makers at Tata ! This should be fixed immediately.

Looks like the much-praised sliding tambour door mechanism is exclusive to the XZ variants as well -

This does not look good. All the goodies seem to have been reserved for top variants. They are repeating their mistake which they made with variants of Hexa - loaded XT and bare bones XM. With low equipment levels in all but top variants, they are robbing lower variants from the USPs of Nexon. Given the fierce competition & the image of Tata motors, I honestly feel that the XT variant should have got more equipment

Its always the case with TATA (and I think it is the case with most manufacturers as well). The least featured vehicle from Tata is Storme and even in Storme the top and variants get the stowage bin with hinged lid in center of the dash board whereas the other variants just get the recess.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

We should consider that TATA is giving ABS, AirBags, Isofix like safety features, drive mode selector even in the lowest variant. If they start giving all the gimmicks as well in the lower variant, how will they justify the price difference between the variant. What would be USP/desirability left for top end?

While as a customer we want more feature with spending less money, we need to be reasonable here. From exteriors, car is looking good for all variants.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

To arrive at a sweet price, standardization has to be implemented. Which means, in the lower models, we get a cap on the KESS button spot, a recessed small screen in place of the floating screen and so on. I don't mind these at all since I can see a rich texture dashboard top, premium looking silver painted dashboard panels and a perforated leather wrapped steering wheel. One also gets the drive modes. All this along with a set of safety features which are standard across the lineup.

Even on the outside, the base XE model doesn't look cheap. It gets the ceramic highlights, some chrome elements, standard ORVMs with indicators, wheel caps and even the rear fog lamp housing is not blank. I would say, "Win some, lose some".

Coming back to the recessed ICE screen, until recently the top end Ecosport used to get a similar small screen for its ICE. And this setup is far better than the contraption found on base and mid variant Ignis. Just my opinion. My complain would be if I find the stock ICE inadequate (less likely, going by recent Tata launches), I can't fit an aftermarket head-unit. But then again, this is true for several other cars such as the Ecosport.
