Gives us a good idea of how the Nexon will look on the roads at night.

The Tata Nexon AMT has been caught on camera by a Rush Lane reader, showing it's standalone touchscreen infotainment system.

Quote:
Recently, a Tata Nexon AMT variant was spied by our reader Mohamed Shahid Hussain near their plant, confirming that the car will also be available with AMT.

It is not certain as to whether the petrol Nexon will get AMT gearbox or the diesel or both.

Some positives for the car :

1) Pleasing front / side angle
2) Compact package ( hoping to be feature packed)
3) Design has a lasting feel to it.

Ideal Price Point if its feature packed - 9 Lacs

Eagerly waiting for this to be launched. I'm in a market for a new car and currently no car satisfies my criteria! Hoping that Nexon will be available in top trim with automatic/amt which is must have for me.

A 4wd would be a real differentiator now in this segment. But does it make a business case to have a 4wd in this segment? Does the nexon platform have the capacity to accommodate one? Any idea? I just wish so.

Sadly while all the pics and renderings look potentially interesting I wouldnt personally even consider such a vehicle without 4WD.
Why is it that Indian consumers by and large seem to prefer form and appearance above function and ability?

Nexon is based on the Zest / Bolt platform, which was essentially the old Vista platform.

Remember reading that this platform cannot accommodate a 4WD system, but can't find the source. Also wouldn't make sense in terms of costs either!

The reasons for leaving out 4WD, in my opinion, is that most customers won't bother with a 4x4 crossover. The added ground-clearance serves the purpose on most occasions. Even serious mud-pluggers seldom taste tough terrain. Rough-roaders are what we need and cars like the Nexon, EcoSport, etc do that job perfectly.

Also, serious off-road enthusiasts would still get a Gypsy / Thar / etc.

And as CD has correctly stated above, 4x4 would be expensive and the costs would, in all probability, out-weigh the benefits that may accrue from it.

I might be wrong here, but I remember reading somewhere that nexon is based on some new advanced modular platform. If yes this should be different from the zest/bolt one right?

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

There's a bit of Evoque there somewhere. Indefinable. Yet there.
But there's also a lot of Tiago and the old Vista hanging about as one can see.

Perhaps, just perhaps, there's a whiff of the Captur as someone said.
But the final proof of the pudding is in the eating of it.

Waiting to see what it looks like in the flesh, at launch!

I agree with you. But for that extra capability on a trail drive or a drive to farm house might need a 4wd . There might be a segment of buyers who mostly use the car in city, need only 5 seater, but goes on occasional long drive and like to have a n adventurous detour from the highway even though not hardcore offroading. A 4wd would definitely boost my confidence while doing so. May be that segment is too tiny to entertain .
