Wow,it seems Tata has speed up their pace, if Official bookings start from 1st week of August, then the Media Drives should happen in couple of days.

Wow That's a great news, Thanks RavenAvi as usual for sharing.
So can we assume that the official launch will be around the first week of August 2017? If that's the case, Tata might start taking booking officially from the next week onwards? I think I'll visit Tata dealership this weekend and see if there is any official word. I'm personally looking forward to this vehicle eagerly but will wait for the launch to see the Car in flesh and then will confirm the booking

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Today got a call from Sales person at Tata Motors in Mysore. He was following up on what happened to my purchase decision(I had taken TD of Hexa). We talked about Nexon and he confirmed 110 bhp/PS figures for both Petrol and Diesel. He also said that those who had gone for service training talked very highly of the diesel. They are not accepting bookings as of now.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Tata Motors has released a first set of details and a teaser image of its upcoming SUV, the Nexon, which is slated to hit the showrooms in the coming months. The carmaker has also revealed engine details of the production-spec SUV.

The Nexon in its production guise will come with two new engines. The Nexon petrol will be powered by a 1.2-litre (1,198cc) Revotron turbo-petrol engine good for 110hp at 5,000. This engine, a three-cylinder unit, will generate 170Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000rpm. The second powerplant will be an all-new, 1.5-litre (1,496cc) Revotorq diesel engine which also develops 110hp but at a lower 3,750rpm. It delivers a potent 260Nm of torque at 1,500-2,750rpm. Both engines will come with three driving modes – Eco, City and Sport. According to Tata, the sole transmission on offer will be a TA6300 six-speed manual unit. However, sources tell us that the diesel engine will also get an AMT option.

The manufacturer says both these engines have been designed at Tata’s in-house facility in Pune, along with inputs from suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell. Tata will manufacture the petrol Revotron engine at its Sanand facility, while the diesel Revotorq motor will be produced at the Ranjangaon plant.

Unlike the more traditional SUV stance, the Nexon uses a coupe-like profile and design details based on Tata’s stylish Impact design language. It gets stylish dual-tone touches on its exterior and will come with similar interior quality seen on the Tiago and the Tigor compact sedan.

The Nexon will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza, both being popular contenders in the sub-four-metre compact SUV segment. Expect Tata to price the Nexon SUV aggressively in the region of Rs 7-10 lakh.

Well well!

110ps petrol and diesel options coupled to a six speed gearbox. They have this department covered. In fact- these are class leading figures on paper. (Except the Ecoboost).

Hopefully, the engines are refined as well to match.

We already know the interiors are class leading as well. Now the only main deciding factor is pricing.

Wow, that escalated quickly. Engine department looks impressive, in fact 6 speed transmission is an icing on the cake, with none of the competition offering, this will be the USP for Nexon which will also help in increasing the fuel efficiency.

Now I am sure the forum will have a new debate topic, "Why 3 Cylinders in Petrol?". Lets hope Tata has developed it in a way to match or excel 4 cylinder engines from the competition.

Tata's compact SUV, the Nexon

Well well! The engine department does look very promising. Coupled with a 6 speed gearbox and 3 drive modes the car should be exciting to drive.
If Tata can offer marginally better interiors than Brezza and EcoSport, with a pricing on par with the Brezza, than they have a winner on their hands. Or do they not?
W-RV will be hit the most I think!

With this output & 6 speed gearbox, I anticipate the diesel to do a sub 10 sec 0-100kmph

Well, the power and torque are spot on. The diesel's torque is even higher than that of the Duster 110, and is available from as low as 1500 RPM - that should translate into decent in city-driveability. With a sixth cog and plenty of torque on tap (though within not such a wide band), I assume the car should have more than decent highway cruising capability. The Petrol also shows promise, with decent power and torque (for petrols) on tap. What is already established is the space on offer and quality of interiors with visibly decent driving dynamics.

Now what we need is a super detailed Team-BHP review.

Cheers !

They need to do way better than the Tiago for sure, which was their recent attempt at a 3 cylinder. But the Nexon being a bigger car with lot more margins as well physical space available for insulations, it could turn out to be acceptable indeed.

Either ways, the prime attraction will surely be the diesel motor, provided the refinement is acceptable.

TATA cars are usually heavier than the competition. And from the looks of it, the build quality looks to be good here in the Nexon. So it may not be as fast. Probably between 12-13 seconds to the 100.

Doesn't need to be sub 10 sec to be fun as well. The much praised 1.6 SCross takes a lot more time to reach the 100 mark. What matters is the way the engine is tuned to deliver all that available power and torque.

Spot on, Tata cars are always on heavier side, that's were in the extra power and torque will help. I don't think Tata will be thinking to have a fastest car here, their should be enough grunt and power on tap when ever required. On a side note, cars which have good 0-100 figures don't always mean to they have powerful engines, its all about the way power is delivered.

Good Luck to Tata on this. They should have gathered alot of data and feedback from Tiago,Tigor and Hexa which will help this product be better.

Well said !

The Tigor thread was so full of 3 cylinder bashing as if the car would fall apart in a 100 meter dash !

Ideally, the Nexon should compete with Ecosport on a pure engine to engine comparison ( Ecosport 1.5 diesel) & not Brezza ( 1.3 mjd), same goes for the power aspect.

Nexon appears from a different league altogether the way Tata's have put their heart into it this time, the design, the engine/power, the interiors, the ICE, you name it. It would be really cruel for it to be compared to Brezza with a weaker heart if that's the way consumers are going to look at it.

I hope not ! Well done Tata !

Brillant engines. the petrol on paper is pretty much matching the GT/Vento TSI. Would have to see how the 3 eylinder cope up though.

Why did they miss on an Automatic, it should have made it so much better in cities like bangalore.
