It's hard to say without seeing the test and reading the article. But I am suspicious seeing the two figures at the top - 50kph at 4th and 80 kph at 6th. Assuming that corresponds to the performance tests, that's way off the mark if you want to measure the 0-100 performance. Who would be on 6th gear at 80kph? 80 may even be too low a cruising speed for this car.

LOL, those are the decibel readings for the engine noise at those typical speeds.
I guess you really misinterpreted them.

I'm a huge fan of the newer generation Tata dashboards, Zest/Bolt onward.

Switch-gear ergonomics are mostly sorted, the design is understated (special mention to the elegant instrument cluster) and the contoured steering is probably one of the best in the market today.

Beats me to comprehend why should one be bothered with "Outside" NVH levels... when one drives or is driven around "Inside" a vehicle.

All I am bothered if how a vehicle feels when I am INSIDE it.

100kmph comes at 2300rpm in 6th gear as per the reviews. So 80 kmph should be around 2000 - 2100 in 6th.

Perfectly usable and bang in the middle of the torque range for a turbo - diesel engine.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

I think there is a lot of confusion with the terms power and torque on this thread. That being said, the 0-100 figures are a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker. The only point of concern so far seems to be engine noise.
In any case I am reserving judgement until the tbhp review comes out.

It's pretty much the same with the 1.3MJD in my Linea too, which is kind of surprising to me. In a bigger engine, I would expect 100 to come at a lower RPM. Anyway, I guess we will have to wait for the TBHP review to get a clearer picture.

I will prefer to judge with my personal test ride experience. But something tells me that this model would be a landmark in Tata Motors history.

Personally to me, right now on the Computer / Smart Phone Screen.. the Brezza and even the Ecosport are Yawn when compared to this "NEX-t Generati-ON" Tata.

While 0-100kmph times are great to get bragging rights, what's important for urban cars is driveability. Hope the Nexon scores on that.

Not necessarily. A shorter 6th gear will entail a wider cruising range with lesser gear shifts. A taller 6th gear will have you shift to 5th every time you even mildly brake (frequent shifts) but it'd do higher speeds at a lower RPM. The gear ratios could be spaced either way, the engine size notwithstanding.

Spotted near Marriott, Kochi yesterday.

Looks like Tata did the ground work to see that media didn't lose their way to the hills in Kerala traffic.

+1

For Indian traffic, ratios a bit closer is always the best 95% of the time. The Fiesta got a very tall 5th gear - the car does a top speed of 186 kmph. But I hardly ever go anywhere near that. And due to tall ratios, I shift down to 4th every time I need power at around 80 kmph. Actually I use the 4th like a short 5th here in Kerala.

Looks like Tata got the spread right with Nexon. May not look glorious on paper, but it will be good for real usage on the road. Can't wait to drive it!

One of the most balanced reviews here. I too feel the petrol will be a bigger number player than the diesel (Yes i have not driven the car), but seeing the reviews feel the Petrol car makes more sense.
