re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Tata Nexon introductory pricing in major cities :

** Add 15k on top of XZ+ pricing for dual tone roof.

Chennai:

Diesel - 8,16,900

XZ+
- Petrol - 8,53,304
Diesel - 9,31,900

Bengaluru:

XE
- Petrol - 5,94,123
Diesel - 6,94,123

XM - Petrol - 6,59,023
Diesel - 7,49,023

XT - Petrol - 7,39,023
Diesel - 8,24,023

XZ+
- Petrol - 8,54,023
Diesel - 9,31,900

Mumbai:

XE

XT - Petrol - 7,38,922
Diesel - 8,23,922

XZ+ - Petrol - 8,53,922

Not a major difference in pricing pan India except Kolkata where the lower variants have a 13k -14k price gap w.r.t Delhi prices. XM seems to be the most VFM proposition.

Against the competition: Tech Specs (Source)

* 6 speed MT transmission for Nexon and not 5 MT.

No questions about the 1.2 Revotron now really. They have priced it low in proportion to the lower performance that people are reporting. "You get what you pay for" approach. The XE Petrol is practically in premium hatchback / compact sedan territory!

The problem though is, if the engine is really boring to drive (which I have always expected it to be) and noisy, nobody will buy it even at the lower price.

Will end up being a waste of resources in R&D, manufacturing and marketing, which could have been better utilized elsewhere.

However, in the case of Nexon - the prices are good - specially the entry level variants. Top variants are good but could have been better, especially the XT variant.
My reading after these recent launches from Tata is that they have someone smart in the pricing department . They know they can't just unseat competition with price alone. They just don't have the brand equity anymore. Profits also are to be made.

So might as well keep some room in the listed price for point of sale discounts in a few months for the serious buyer rather than publish a low list price and have very little room for a downward correction.

My prediction is that this vehicle will do 4000 to 4500 per month for the first year (unless a new competitor enters this market), which will be good numbers for Tata.

The market leader right now is Maruti Brezza. In the past 6 months, I was offered a good exchange price for my old car and some discounts for the Brezza. And yes, I was called 5 times by the local dealer and their central office in Gurgaon. I hope you get my point.

For other popular Maruti models like WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Alto and others, Maruti and their local dealers keep offering discounts/offers ranging from 20k-70k every 2-3 months on the pretext of some festival or the other. This is a double pronged strategy and it is working well for them. No doubt the demand keeps on increasing every month.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Autocar has following to say about real world fuel economy.

Quote:
Full disclaimer – we tested both Nexons for fuel economy in their efficiency-enhancing Eco modes. In our city test loop, the petrol delivered a mediocre 9kpl. Out on the highway, where sixth gear came into play, the petrol Nexon bettered its performance with a figure of 13kpl, which, if you think about it, is still not a shining number for a car of this size. As with all turbo-petrols, an aggressive driving style has a big impact on economy. Drive hard and you’ll make your way through the Nexon’s 44-litre tank alarmingly fast.
The diesel Nexon was expectedly more efficient with city and highway fuel economy figures of 14kpl and 18kpl, respectively, making it about at par with diesel rivals.

Manufacturers usually disclose the ARAI fuel efficiency figures when car is launched, has Tata Motors forgotten to do so? Couldn't find a mention of it anywhere!

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Very Good Pricing in my Opinion!

Regarding the Gap between XT and XZ+ (both price and feature wise), I believe it is to accommodate XZ variant in between, in future. I hope that variant would get better features like Projectors with DRLs, Alloy Wheels, Rear Wiper and defogger and Height adjustable seat etc.

Having said this, I believe still it would sell around 4000 per month (average) only. I am stating this keeping in mind historical performance of Tata products and also competition vis-a-vis Maruti.

Nice observation. this shows how closely nexon must have been bench-marked against the Brezza / Ecosport

New ACI review http://www.autocarindia.com/car-comp...parison-405930

Lower variants of nexon will have GC 197mm compared to 198mm of Brezza

Top variant is anyways 209mm (unladen)

The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs-tyres.jpg
p.c. https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/

also noticeable is the 110 bhp output for Nexon Petrol 1.2L engine, against 111 bhp for Ecosport Petrol 1.5L engine.

Now that we know that XZA will be the AMT, does anyone know whether AMT will be offered in XZ+ or will it be limited to XZA or lower? If any concrete information surfaces that AMT will be offered in the top trim also, then I can wait, if not, I am planning to go with XZ+ manual diesel.
