Indeed it is going to be launched in the near future. Honda has already started its pre-launch marketing program from yesterday.

re: With Honda in Japan: BR-V preview & more

Hi guys and gals, I just came back from Indonesian Motor Show and here's my impression with the BR-V. Sorry, no photos as I'm very in a hurry and was actually spending too much time with Toyota Sienta.

First impression:
  • The new dash is reassuringly upscale, MUCH better than the old Brio/Mobilio hideous taxi quality dash.
  • The headroom is astounding. My daily car is the Brio and the headroom is adequate but the BR-V is just cavernous.
  • You can feel the added height from the driving position and getting in and out of the car.
  • I don't see anything special on the undercarriage, all I can see is that they jack up the suspension mounting.
  • Getting in and out for my 180 cm build from the third row is actually easier because of the added ground clearance.
  • The engine has its intake near the hood line. Anyone care to explain? The sales rep told me that it was to increase the car wading depth. Although not specific he said that the car can cross flooded road up to my thigh (about 1 meter) Really?
  • The cargo bay space is slightly bigger. Now this I got to see. The sales rep told me that the Mobilio it was based on has smaller cargo bay (with seats up). The Mobilio is barely able to fit 5 gallon water container (the cylindrical type) but the BR-V can according to the sales rep... Surely I didn't carry a 5 gallon water container with me, but once the car is able to be test driven, for sure I'll be bringing my water container.
  • Hideous circular plastic cutaway meant for start/stop button. Come on Honda! Toyota Sienta has it on the mid grade spec, even BR-V Prestige doesn't have it. Maybe it's for Indonesia version they have to trade off VSA + HSA for it.
In short, I can see the BR-V doing well in Indonesia and I believe in India as we have similarly developed areas (both metro and rural). The added ground clearance is welcomed, and frankly even though I don't feel it, by any metric the BR-V is larger than the Mobilio. The car feels like a slight upgrade from the Mobilio. A mobilio version 1.5 if you will.

re: With Honda in Japan: BR-V preview & more

From the Honda Indonesia website:
The BR-V is 4456 x 1735 x 1666 mm compared to the Mobilio which is 4386mm x 1683mm x 1603mm.

The BR-V get more power compared to the Mobilio and City. 120 HP vs 118 HP. Torque remains the 145 Nm. The BR-V gets a 6 speed MT instead of a 5 speed MT in the Mobilio/City.

We might have a different interior shade and AVN unit.

OT: Why can't India get the Civic and Accord? (Surprised Indonesia has so many Honda models on sale)

Re: Honda @ Auto Expo 2016

The journey started on the 6th April and will complete by the 26th April . My guess is that they will be officially launching the BRV around that time.

. I am in touch with a dealer ( one of the owners of the dealership) in Mumbai, through a common contact, who has promised me a BRV as soon as possible and he hasn't heard of any tangible details from Honda with regards to the bookings. Last week I had gone to Apex Honda in Prabhadevi and all they did was take down my contact number in their general register. They could only guess that it should start sometime in May.
Once the BRV drive across India is completed, I guess they will make some official announcement and start taking bookings. The 20 day drive should finish by 25th ~26th April.

re: With Honda in Japan: BR-V preview & more

Will the BRV be less expensive than the Honda City?

In the Honda Indonesia site, the price of the BRV starts from Rp.227.500.000 and the city Rp.290.200.000. For comparison the Jazz starts at Rp.208.000.000.

Is there any news on when Honda is planning to launch the new Accord? If priced in the Rs. 25-30 lakh range, I think would make it a value for money proposition.

re: With Honda in Japan: BR-V preview & more

I had called the closest honda guy just yesterday, Linkway Honda near Powai, Mumbai, and he had said that honda is taking pre-booking at 1 lakhs, launch in 1st week of may, price between 9-13 lakhs, and CVT might be there in petrol, but no automatic in diesel...which is in line with rumors so far.

Then saw this link last night:

Honda announces pre-bookings for the BR-V at Rs 21,000

And now the same guy calls me back to say pre-booking now at 21k! When I asked him why you were asking for 1 lakhs y'day, he was like "now it has come from honda"!! Talk about making a quick buck!

As for delivery, he said it will be delivered in 1 month of launch, then said june, and then july!

I guess its best to let it get launched and wait for BHP detailed review before booking huh?

PS: Which reminds me, Mods, when are getting a dedicated thread for BR-V, instead of this "With Honda in Japan: BR-V preview, Crash Test demo & CEO interaction" thing?!
